Why do birth control pill instructions state to start the Sunday AFTER your peri!

Question: Is it just to make sure you're not pregnant? I had my period last week...so last Sunday would've been the time to start my pills but I didn't pick them up from the pharmacy on time. So I wanted to start this Sunday. It's not a big deal right? Do I really have to wait until next month's period to start them?

They say that because that was how the medication was tested. In real life, there are three methods to starting birth control. What you mentioned is the first Sunday method, the first Sunday after menstruation. There is the first day of menses method. If you use that approach, the medication will be immediately effective. The third method, my favorite, is the fast start method. You start the day you get the medication. With this method and the first Sunday method, you will not be protected until 7 days of taking the pill.
No harm will come to a embryo, if you are taking birth control at the same time.

You def have to check with your doc or pharmacist. You have missed to many days in your cycle to just start taking the pill a week late... If you notice in those little info packets it will tell you what to do if you miss one or two pills anything after that you are suppose to contact your medical adviser. Def call someone to find out if you should wait until your next period...
