How many of you have had to get naked at a doctor's office? How do you feel !

Question: Ok, so how many of you have had to take off your clothes at the doctor's office? I don't mean just take off the top but everything like your bra for the upper part and the underwear at the lower part so they can observe you? How many of you hate when that happens, like you feel violated or something? Isn't it a gross feeling???

its weird, but just keep in mind that doctor's see people naked a lot (those doctors do anyways), so seeing you naked isn't any more special to them than seeing anyone else naked.

hah i hate it. lol.. its wayy awkard..but i guess i have to do it... lol im only 14.. cant wait till im 40 so i can start mamgrams and how ever old u are to start pap-smears!! YAY! haha ;)
lol. but no. it sucks. but i guess its better then having somethign snaked up my @$$ like what guys have to do! aha

I've never had that happen to me. Glad about it too.

No, it's not gross feeling and no, I don't feel violated. Maybe a little cold and maybe a little silly that they give me large paper breast covers and let me keep my socks on (probably the funniest I'll ever look).

Hey Jordan... I take it you must be fairly young yet. Sadly, about 100% of women have to get naked at the doctors office. Its just not something you can avoid. Some do avoid it until they are 20ish, but most have it happen the first time in their teens.

Most do feel violated, but you get used to having it happen over time. I won't say its a gross feeling, just very different. Most find it to feel very helpless. Some people take that helpless feeling better then others. A very few are so upset by it they need to be sedated the first few or several times.

ha omfg, i hate it, and its weird when the doctor like feels your boobs, it feels like there feeling you up, i think all doctors are petifiels =]

I feel SOO awk but I don't feel violated. The doctor's at my office know that it's a naturally awk situation so if you say everything is okay then they don't generally look. Sometimes though, it's easier to just let them look to make sure everything's okay.

Why would anyone need to be completely naked, when visiting a Doctor?
I think your Doctor is just a pervert.
If there is a need for a doctor to examine a breast, he/she might need to look at that part of your anatomy.
If he/she needs to check other private parts they may need to check that area out. But there should not be any reason whatsoever where a Doctor needs to see a patient completely nude.
If your question is based on truth - your Doctor needs to be reported. And you should find another Doctor, as this one is going to jail.

**** I see by other answers that Nakedness in front of a Doctor is a common occurence. Would someone please answer, WHY A DOCTOR NEEDS TO SEE A PATIENT NAKED? For what purpose?

I have had complete physical examinations when I was in the Military, and at no time was I required to be completely naked.

There's a certain feeling of awkwardness, I suppose.

But I certainly don't feel violated. If I'm undressing at the doctor's office, then part of what I'm paying for is to have the doctor inspect me in those areas for the sake of my health, whether that includes looking at me, doing a breast exam, or even looking and feeling inside me as in a pap smear and pelvic exam. This isn't necessarily *comfortable* (for that matter, neither is having my eyes dilated at the optometrist's), but it's not a titillating or exploitative experience for either of us, just part of the doctor's job and my checkup.

Edit: I guess I partly answered Ruprect's concerns, but yes, there are reasons to be completely naked for the doctor. A woman may be having a pap smear and pelvic exam, which requires access to the vagina, and such a trip usually also involves a routine examination of the breasts for potential cancer. A man might be examined for testicular or prostate cancer, which would involve handling the testicles or feeling inside the anus, respectively; but being neither male nor a doctor who treats them, I'm not as familiar with the procedures for a male.

Further edit: Now, most of the time, yes, there's a paper gown or something, and only the relevant area is actually exposed, and they leave the room while I change into or out of the gown. But considering the gown has to be moved for them to look at all the different areas over the course of the visit, I guess I was thinking of it as functionally equivalent to nudity. This isn't really fair, since it's obviously an attempt to preserve the patient's modesty to the degree possible. I'm not sure I, personally, would feel significantly more exposed without it if I were asked to remove it to be looked over, compared to, say, having it on while they peer into my vagina with a tube and a little light.

I should also add that if the doctor is acting in an inappropriate way, then that is certainly unacceptable: the asker should stop going to that doctor and possibly register a complaint or press charges. If he is behaving in a way that makes her uncomfortable, even if it's not actually unprofessional, that's also adequate reason to change doctors.

But I'm also aware that examining otherwise private areas of the body is often necessary in the course of a doctor's job, and while I understand being uncomfortable, I don't feel violated by it. I suppose I might think it's kind of gross, but in the same way I think being a dental hygienist must be kind of gross. I would not want a career that involved peering into other people's orifices.
