Question: Fir the past 2 years, I have been expericing large blood lots with my period. I tried birth controls and it only made it worst. I spoke to my doctor he said nothing is wrong. the pap smear is what 'tests' for abnormal cell reproduction...aka cancer. I get a fair amount of clots too when I have my period and it didn't matter if I was on the pill or not, I would just get them. It is simply just the excess lining that has shed and not too much to be worried about (usually). If it accompanies heavy bleeding, irregular periods, horrid menstrual cramps that don't go away with NSAIDS, etc., then it could be from something else that the pap smear will not catch (such as endo).

Other than that, if everything is 'normal' with just the blood clots, then you are fine and shouldn't worry too much.

No, blood clots mixed in with blood during your menstrual cycle is completely normal. When your'e on your period, the inner lining of your uterus sheds. So basically, everything your uterus has built up for the past month is released. The blood clots have just accumulated inside the uterus for some time, so they have built up in size. Don't let this scare you, it's just the female body doing what it does.

Hope that helps!

blood clots are normal as long as they are not any bigger than a quarter.

There is nothing abnormal about passing clots with your period, and there is no relationship to the liklihood of developing a genitourinary cancer.

My only suggestion is you try taking one aspirin a day and see if this helps. Otherwise progesterone only birth control is very likely to reduce the heaviness of, or even stop, your periods. It comes in many preparations, from pills, to patches, implants, injections, coil- and could be worth a shot if you're still worried.,

Whenever a DOCTOR tells you nothing is wrong especially if they don't run any test, it's then time for a second opinion! If you think something is wrong go with that feeling since it is worring you and ask another doctor....
