Menstrual Pain?!

Question: When I get my period the first day is so painful. I always have to call into work sick and stay home from school. I get cramps, dizzy, faint, puke, hot and then really cold. I take tylenol menstrual but it doesnt help really. I use a hot or cold pack. Usually after i puke i feel better, but not always. does anybody else get all of these symptoms? do you have any other ideas how to minimize pain and be able to go on with the day?

Severe period pains should always be investigated to check for a treatable cause. As a rough guide, if you've had severe period pain (known as dysmenorrhoea) since around the time your periods first started, it's less likely a particular cause will be found.

There are exceptions to this. Conditions such as endometriosis can sometimes cause severe pain from an early age (although the pain typically gets worse as the disease does more damage with each monthly cycle). Other causes include fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease and sometimes a narrowing of the cervix. Bear in mind, though, that period pains are rarely a sign of disease, especially in younger women.

If the pain interferes with your life, preventing you from working, going to school or coping with daily tasks, I would recommend you consult with a doctor/gynaecologist for further evaluation.

Good luck :)

I used to do that - I was also so irregular I could never plan ahead - usually it would start after I got to where I was going and I would have to go back home. Once it was so bad I had to have someone drive me. After that episode I talked to my gyno about it and she put me on birth control pills. What a difference! I haven't had cramps or any of the other symptoms in 3 years and I don't miss them at all. Also shortened my period and made it lighter and much, much easier to deal with.
There's no need to suffer - talk to your doctor about it. Your symptoms are way worse than the average OTC can handle.

you sound like me! exact same story. i'd vomit for the first two days and have the chills & sweats at the same time. couldn't even get out of bed.

thanks to talking to my gyno he put me on Lostrin 24 (birth control) and now i don't even mind getting my periods. that's a lie, i think we all will hate it haha, but you get the picture.
