Bleeding while on the patch?!

Question: I've been on the patch for just over a year, and all of a sudden this morning I'm noticing bleeding when I'm still wearing my patch. It's not regular bleeding, but I'd rather not describe it in detail... But I'm also having some shooting cramps [rather than the normal dull achey ones] and I had some yesterday as well. I'm seventeen.

[also if anyone knows where else I can ask this for a better response please let me know!]

The hormones in birth control pills have a way of messing up your chemical balance. They can make you pee a lot causing you to lose too much sodium and potassium. This imbalance means you simply cannot retain you water, pill or no pill. (Or patch or no patch.) Without enough sodium, they seem to start menstruating once the balance gets too low.
Lot of girls have written in and complained they got their period before their 28 days had passed. They complain of having become swollen and tender and their bodies have premenstrual symptoms. To get some orange juice or a sports drink, it would plug up the bleeding and restore your capacity to retain water. Then it should flush out that excess and get you back to normal again.
It's been true for so many others, it just might be true for you. I don't know much about the patch, but they all seem to have the same problem. It might work for you too.
I hope this helps you.

I think you're in the proper catagory. As for your problem, I'd call your doctor asap. Some birth control can lead to blood clots. My doctor told me if I ever got a lot of cramps/charlie horses in my calf muscles to call her asap. You may be having a sudden reaction to it for some reason. I was on Ortho-tricyclin and after 2 years I started getting some awful side effects. Good luck, please call your doctor!

The patch as in Ortho Evra? I'm on that and I've had the same thing happen to me, but I knew the exact cause I was a little late on putting a new patch back on. This made me bleed for a full month straight!! So if you're forgetting to put it on the same time every week this will cause the bleeding.

you need to see your doctor.
