I just straight up told my mom when I got mine. (I'm almost 16 now), I got mine when I was 12 or 13. Don't use pantiliners! Their not enough protection (potential leakage!). I first started using pads, their easier when you first have you period, but I eventually had to start using tampons because it was summer coming up (so when I would go swimming, etc.) Now I use tampons all the time, and dont worry about TSS, I still freak out about that but really you have no need to. If you change your tampon every 8 hours you'll be fine, dont worry about that (trust me- I fell asleep once and left the same tampon in for 16 HOURS - I was freaking out but I was totally fine!). Start using tampons when you feel comfortable, and trust me, it took me a while to finally be able to use them! Their A LOT more convenient and less messy than pads. My mom doesn't believe in tampons cause she thinks you should just "let all that stuff out", when really pads are quite messy and I stick with tampons now. Just eventually work your way up to using tampons! theres no rush... your still 11! Good luck :)

Pad!
i never used tampons. They need to be changed ever 2 hours which is annoying. You can also get toxic shock from them and die, Which isnt too common.

stick with Pads

for beginners use a pad much much more easier

what ever is best for you. just say casually "so... puberty struck" funny, for me the day before my first, i was making fun of tampons. haha jinxed myself. lol

pads are a good way to begin because they are easy to use.
tampons take some practice, but once you get used to them they are convienant because they only have to be changed every four hours. Toxic shock syndrome is still a potential threat, but as long as you follow hte directions on the box you should have no problems. pantiliners can be used when you think you might start, think you mgiht be done, or have a really light flow.
as to telling your mom, its okay to be nervous, i was terrified. just tell her, and i'm sure that she will be excited (which is embarrising for you) but its soemthing that will become easier to talk about as you get more used to it. :)

if this is your first period it would be better to use a pad. most young girls don't like pads because they think people can see them, which is not true if you wear it correctly. also, you need more experience to use a tampon. a pantyliner would not be enough protection for a period. and for mom, just be honest. trust me she knew it was coming whether she was ready or not. you will feel much better when you tell her, and she might be able to advise you more about what she wants you to use. i also recommend using the always in the green pack with wings, the are really comfortable and thin. good luck, and congrats on becoming a woman.

Congratulations on entering puberty! Just tell your mom that you got it. She may be a little sad, but that is just because you are growing up.

Since you are just starting your period, your flow will be pretty light for the first several times you get it. Try an ultrathin pad for awhile. In a year or so when your periods are heavier and more regular, try out tampons. Then you can decide which you prefer.

When my friends and I first started our periods we were really happy because it meant that we didn't have to shower after gym when we had our periods!

You should definitely use a pad or a panty liner, depending on how heavy your period is. Lots of blood--use a pad. Less blood--a panty liner should be okay. It can be really uncomfortable to try to use a tampon when you're first starting.

Just go up to your mom when you're alone with her and tell her, "I got my period today." She'll be happy for you. It means you're turning into a woman.

Well, pantiliners may be better for the end of cycle days when you're incredibly light or spotting.

My suggestion would be to stick with pads for awhile. You can get ultrathin pads that are just a thin as pantiliners. It gives you a chance to get used to the whole period thing and figure out what absorbency you'll need before trying to tackle the whole tampon thing. Using a pad with a higher absorbency then you need isn't a big deal. Using a tampon with a higher absorbency then you need can put you at risk for toxic shock syndrome.

I don't know your mom's personality, but I'd say honest and direct is a good strategy. "Mom, I just started my period and I need to get some pads/tampons." It's nothing to be ashamed or embarassed of. After all, she's your mom, but she's a woman too. And it's pretty normal to start at around your age.

Pads, wait until you have had your period for a while before moving on to tampons.
Get your mum by herself and tell her that you started. If thats to scary then you can do a little cheeky way, "mum some how you need to buy pads for me if you know what i mean"
She'll get the point.

pad is best thing to use.

okay pantiliners; use them while using a tampon. tampons; so great! i use them. pads; yeah alright if u dont mind feeling like your wearing a nappy.

Pad! Do not start off by using tampons...
