Question about my Sister....really worried?!

Question: Ok to start off, my sister has extremely irregular periods. They used to be a month long, off maybe a week or two and then another week long period. She's missed so many activities because she wasn't feeling up to it because she was either pms-ing or on her period. I feel really bad for her. She went on the Pill and the first 3 didn't work so the new pill she got on now is still long but not as long as a month like the other pills. My sister was taken to the endocrinologist and they thought she had high testosterone and high blood pressure. My mom thought it was nothing and forgot all about my sisters problems and doesn't believe my sister when she says that her periods are really long. My dad doesn't really get involved but believes whatever my mom says. My sister is always complaining of pains and my mom doesn't care. the doctors said my sister doesn't have a tumor or an ovarian cyst so those aren't it. Let me continue this.......

Gynaecologist is your safest option. Definately take your sister there, it would be better with your mums support obviously, but if not, she still needs to go. If she is needs persuading, mention that this all involves her fertility, and if she ever wants kids one day, she needs to sort this out. It depends on where you live, but in some places you do need your parents there, but in others you just need someone over 18. How old are you?

Yes blood loss is important to consider, I never got long periods like that but I got heavy ones, to the point where I would faint about 3-4 times a year from blood loss. And that was for week long periods.... Mine was controlled by the pill though thank god. If her hormones are out of control, she may need to take replacement therapy, or something else. But she won't know that until she see's the gynae.

So definately take her to the gynae. Maybe to convince your mum, have her mark on a calender which your mum sees the next time she gets her period. Every day she should go back to the calander and make a mark on it, making sure to tell your mum (i.e. its now day 5...) and continue every day. I dont know, it's a silly suggestion, but at least it might draw your mums attention to it. If not, go to the gynae without her, its your sister's health and future fertility at stake...not something to be ignored.

Congrats on being so supportive!

Well it is nice that you are worrying about her and being a good sister because of that, but being 16 she SHOULD know that this isn't normal and that something needs to be done.

As far as I know 16 year olds can not go to the gyn alone.

Just tell her to try and talk to yalls mom again. IF she still isn't doing anything about it as far as am concerned that is child abuse (since something physically is wrong with her and your mom is not doing anything about it) Tell her to stick it out until she is 18 and go to the gyn or get the law involved.

For right now she needs to take some iron pills.
