In some cases, headaches can be caused by certain health problems that would require surgery, but if she's really wanting to avoid surgery at all costs, she can always get a second opinion from a different doctor. If her migraines are very serious, she should probably see if her regular doctor can give her a referral to a neurologist.

Do you know why her doctor is suggesting surgery? Has she had an MRI or CT scan that would reveal something serious? If this is the case, it sounds like she might need surgery for reasons other than pain relief. Some serious, life-threatening conditions can come with migraines as a side effect, so this could very well be a life or death issue. I'm not trying to frighten you, but if her doctor is recommending surgery, it's most likely something pretty serious. Like I said before, she can always get a second opinion.

Do you know what tablets her doctor gave her? There are medications that can be taken on a daily basis to help prevent migraines. She could ask her doctor about trying one of these medications, if that's not what they gave her.

She could also consider visiting a chiropractor for regular adjustments. Some people report significant decrease in migraine frequency and severity after having regular chiropractic adjustments. They helped me with a lot of various pain issues that I had.

Do her migraines seem to have any sort of pattern to them? Do they occur at certain times of the day or month? I usually had migraines right before and during my period, and certain forms of hormonal birth control made them worse. If she's on birth control now, she might consider talking to her doctor about changing forms of birth control, if her migraines seem to be related to this. Girls her age tend to have a lot of hormone related issues because of all the changes they're going through, so this may be something that will change as she gets older.

As the above poster says, some migraines do require surgery. That said, there are a few things you can ask her to do to see if they cause the problem:

1) Get her eyes checked. Uncorrected eyesight can cause migraines

2) Get dental checkup with x-rays. Unaligned teeth can cause migraines.

3) try omitting chocolate and caffeine sodas. Both of those can cause migraines if she has them quite often then stops for one day. Stop them for a week and see what happens. And drink plenty of water.

If none of those work then trust her doctor. He's the expert and he's probably done this 100's times a year.

Eliminate trigger factors like : sleeping late, irregular and hurried meals, certain food to be avoided especially chocolate and fried foods or missing a meal. Psychological stress, Contraceptive pills, Treatment of cervical spondylosis if present. She should carry with relaxation exercise. Drugs should be take during the attack and there after to reduce the frequency and severity of the subsequent attacks. So consult the doctor .
