Does smoking decrease the effectiveness of birth control?!

Question: No.... but it dramatically increases your risk of developing a Blood Clot...

Why are blood clots dangerous?

1. Stroke
2. Heart Attack
3. Loss of Limb due to cut off circulation
4. Pulmonary embolism which is a clot in the lung and stops your breathing.

Does this really happen??

YOU BET! Im a nurse and have seen young girls come in with Pulmonary Embolisms or clots in their legs...

The ones who stroke out or heart attack usually dont make it... so I didn't see those ones on my floor.

No but it really increases the chances you'll get a blood clot. It's quite unsafe to smoke while on the pill.

No, but it does increase your risk for heart attack.

Avoid smoking cigarettes while taking birth control pills. Smoking greatly increases the risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or blood clot. I am yet to hear that it decreases the effectiveness of the BC pills. Hope I helped!

I haven't heard that, but smoking while on birth control increases the chance of serious side effects. "Women who take the pill are urged not to smoke."

There are some studies that suggest it does. Also, smoking combined with birth control increase your chances of a blood clot, which can lead to a stroke, which is very dangerous. In any case, smoking doesnt lead to anything good.

No, but it increases a lot of risks such as blood clots/dvt (which, trust me, is no fun!), stroke, heart attack, anxiety, etc.
