Mirena IUD users?!

Question: I just got my Mirena put in Wednesday, and the first few days I didn't really have any cramping, but in the last couple days the cramping has gotten worse, but I haven't really bled or spotted at all...is this normal? Also, yesterday I checked for my strings but couldn't feel them. I think I felt in the right place though I'm not 100% sure. Should I go the the doctor right away or wait for my check up next month?
Any answers or experiences will be appreciated, thanks!

Ok, to feel the coils strings, place your finger inside, and feel for a 'bump' that seems to have a crevice in it...this is where you should feel your strings. They are very fine and not that easy to feel if you are inexperienced. Bear down slightly when you have inserted your finger and you should find them.

The Mirena is certainly different to other IUD's. I actually was one of the original 'testers' of it back in the early 90's. I reported some very odd side effects at first! And yes, cramping was one of them. As was pregnancy feelings, swelling of the breasts, cravings and break through bleeding! However, it did eventually settle, after about ten weeks and I have never looked back....
Today I still have a Mirena, although in my 40's, this is likely to be my last!

My honest opinion is, it should settle, however, as with all IUD's perforation and/or expulsion is a slim possibility and if you are in doubt, should be checked.

Good Luck!

When I got mine I cramped and bled irregularly for nearly a year. It is rare that the strings have moved so soon. Maybe your strings are just short which is a good thing. I have had mine for 1.5 years and it's always in the right place. It's new to you and in the beginning, you always worry about it being in the right place.
