What do you need to tell her? I am pretty sure that she has had them before and that she understand that you are close to the age to be having them. (And I am sure she knows more about them than you!).
Why wouldn't you just tell her? Or you can start a conversation with "Mom, what age were you when you started having periods? Should I be getting ready now?"
Be open with your mom ask her questions about it she'll be glad you did!
