Reassurance that there is no way I am pregnant?!

Question: Okay, this is kind of a weird question, but I am sort of freaking out here. Here is the situation: my period is never late, its pretty much right on schedule every 28 days. My fiance is in the military, and he left on deployment about a day before my last period started. The night before he left, we had sex and didn't use a condom, but we did use the "pull out" method. Not the smartest, I know, but we usually do use condoms. Okay, so we used the pull out method that night and then within the next couple days, my period started and it was a normal period. Now, it is over a month later, and my period is a few days late, which is strange since its always on time. So, is it really possible for me to have gotten pregnant the day before my period started and yet still have that one normal period? I feel like I am being paranoid, but my period really is never late. I am going to get a test tomorrow, but I am looking for some reassurance.... Please tell me that I am just over reacting!

I'd say you could breathe here. Periods can be delayed for reasons other than pregnancy, stress being a leading cause. Your fiance just deployed, and none of the deployment zones are what you would call "safe". So a certain amount of stress and worry on your part is understandable. That in turn can disrupt a cycle, make it late, make it heavy, and even make it skip. You just have a disruption in the hormone cycle, that's all. If it will set your mind at ease- at home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate. One test ought to settle the issue. When the period does finally arrive- expect cramps and clots. If it skips this month, don't panic. Wait at least until a second cycle skips. Then it will be time to visit the kindly gyn to have matters set right. Until then, breathe and wait. It'll happen- likely when it's least expected and least convenient. That's a law of the universe, of course.

you could be late because you're stressed.

It is likely that you were not ovulating during intercourse, and therefore are not pregnant. The stress of this ordeal is probably the reason whey you period is a little late. However, ovulation times are not always as regular as your period, so you cannot be 100% sure until the pregnancy test. In the meantime, just relax.

Stressing about being prego or even thinking you are pregnant can make your period late, which sounds very weird but it is true so Im pretty sure that you are not pregnant

In general, no.. if the period after the time that you had sex came on time with the usual side effects and lasted as long as your regular periods, you should not be pregnant. Some women claim to have "implantation bleeding" around two weeks after the sex (the time their period may come), but you do not have cramps and it does not last as long as a regular period. It may just be the fact that you are stressing over being pregnant. Do not feel 100% sure that you aren't, though, because sometimes things just don't follow the usual rules. Take your test too. :-)

Congratulations! You're pregnant!

well, you really might be over reacting. and stress will only make your "monthly bill" come even later. so quit stressing!! i am going to come back to this one, this is interesting to see what others will say. Im not too sure about the whole "when you have sex at what time of the month" effect on your cycle, so im not 100% sure what safe days are ok to have sex without being fertile. But i would like to know. Good luck, and just for tonight, you are overreacting! tomorrow might be another story, but you needed reassurance. So- you will be fine:) take it easy girl!
