Breast infection at 47??????????!

Question: I am 47 years old (my youngest child is 13) and have developed a tenderness and sores on my breast. It resembles the breast infection that I had when I was breast feeding my children. Is it possible to get a breast infection in the absence of breast feeding? Or any ideas of what might be going on?

I relize that the best thing to do would be to go to the docs, but I am in a remote Alaskan village with only a health aid and the nearest doctor a 4 hour plane ride away. I would like some information to take to the health aid and help with evaluating the situation.

I am not running a fever or feeling ill. I have extreme pain in one of my breasts and two small lessions below my nipple. I am not breastfeeding, pregnant or sexualy active.

Thank you

You know there are several things that can be, some serious and some not. If you are not having fever, etc, then just increase your fluids, massage the area, don't wear a bra, and see what happens in a day or two. BUT DO GET A BREAST EXAM and a mamogram ASAP! Breast cancer would be the end of the serious scale and caught early gives you better chances for good outcome.

I had breast infections on and off when I was a teen (and I never had any children). It is uncommon but it can happen. If it is that you should get some anti-biotics.

you know you will have to go get this checked out it could be a clogged duck from a cyst or anything. either way to get it checked. look up breast issues on web md and see if there is any info you can pick up on that as well
