It's because women tend to hold their gas in more than guys do (due to embarrassment and lack of confidence). This means that when they finally do emit some gas, it is highly concentrated and pungent, and therefore smells worse.

Let us assume that the fart leaves the pucker and travels upwards over the Boffeys Bridge towards the beef curtains. The fart would gather the smell from the honey pot so magnifying the pong.
