My little sister had her period two weeks ago and feels it coming again.?!

Question: When she was about 15 (she's 17) she had her period for two weeks straight. My mother took her to the doctor and because she's a virgin they did a sonogram check and they said her overie was a bit swollen and the only thing they told her could help her was birth control. Of course my mom being the old fashion lady she is said no. ( which i got really mad about) She came to me last night and told me she just had her period about two weeks ago and she's feeling symptoms( cramps) as if it's coming again. I want to take her to a a doctor again, the thing is she's still a virgin. Has anyone gone through this ?

I actually had a similar experience and even though I was not a virgin, after consulting a doctor, I found out that it was pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. Since the doctor did diagnose a swollen ovary, I would say this is likely the cause. Our bodies give us "signs" when something is wrong. I understand about the old-fashioned mom thing as well. My mom was livid when she found out that I put myself on birth control after she told me not to. I was 18 and didn't even live with her! It wasn't because I wanted to have sex, it was because the doctor recommended it since my body needed hormones. It sounds like a similar case to your sisters. At any age, with the approval of a doctor or nurse practitioner you can put yourself on birth control, and we all know it is a wise decision. She should just do it herself and if your mom finds out, I would have her explain that her health is important and it doesn't mean she is having sex.

Sometimes young girls have difficult period from first menstruation up to fully developed regular menstrual cycles. But usually from 18-20 year the menstrual cycle should complete the development and it should be regular. Very often the birth control pills are used for treatment which makes menstrual cycles regular. Just explain your mother that pills are used not only for pregnancy prevention but in many cases for treatment of virgin girls.
