Question: After my wife had our daughter she keeps getting this swollen vein in the lower part of her vaginal lips when we have intercourse or when she's sexually aroused. it gets bigger and bigger each year? it goes back to normal when we're not active but once the area is aroused it swells and it's very painful. what can this be?

From the location you described, I am getting one of two possible visuals.

One, it could be a swollen lymph gland. Located where the thigh meets the vaginal area.

Another possibility, (even more familiar) ..

If it is located lower near the lips, off to the side,
It could be a bartholin's gland cyst. If it is swelling off and on, this could be a possibility.

All women have these glands in both sides of the vagina. It is actually an internal gland and lubricates the vagina.

The problem with swelling is that sometimes swelling indicates a blockage in the drainage duct. The lubricant is supposed to be able to flow freely.

Occasionally they will swell. This is not uncommon.

Now if it would become painful, or swell up to the size of a grape or larger and last for more than a few days, you should consult a doctor.

I had to have my bartholin's gland marsupialized because it was blocked. It is a basic I & D process, involving drainage... and then the cyst wall is sutured to create a window. This prevents future blockage.

Wait it out...

Again, the bartholin's glands are located in the soft flesh patches under the skin, beside the openings of the vagina.

I hope this helps, and good luck.

tell her to see her OB/GYN and get a check up. maybe there's a blockage in that area, tell them the problem and they can run some tests and see what's going on. hope she feels better.
