I want to stop taking the pill?!

Question: I have been on birth control since I was 18 (I'm 25 now) and I feel like its about time for me to stop. Mainly because I don't like the idea of taking unnecessary hormones when my fiance can just wear a condom or we can use other methods. Partly because Its an extra expense (no insurance drug coverage) that I can cut from my budget.

My questions are:
-Will there be any side effects if I stop taking the pill?
-If so, what are they?
-How long after I stop taking them will pregnancy be possible? (I am not looking to have kids right now, just curious)

I am taking the generic equivalent to Ortho - Lo

There is a natural method of avoiding pregnancy that is thought in the Catholic church for people who are preparing for marriage. It is called NFP i.e. natural family planning. I'd say it is very good based on all the research and the outcomes that they have shown.
I believe there will be more side effects when one is on the pill, but there will be some cyclical changes when you stop taking the pill. For e.g. some intermittent bleeding.
There's always a chance of not knowing when you ovulate after you stop taking the pill and hence any method like NFP or timing method may be a little of.
Hence there is always a possibility of getting pregnant and now knowing when exactly you ovulated.
But mostly the sideeffects are minimal. Some other may be mood changes, changes in libido. There are some minor benefits of taking the pill that are listed in the link below that you might miss and would be important to take into consideration if you were taking the pill to prevent any of those conditions.
Pregnancy is theoretically possible even if you miss 2 or 3 days of the pill, but doctors generally say to be off the pill about 2-3 months before you decide to get pregnant.
Hope this helps.

preg can happen very soon after taking the pill.....there should be not real side effects, i would finish out the pack first and then stop after your period, that way you have already been off it for a week!

When I stopped taking them my breasts made a bit of milk, but the doctor said this doesn't usually happen.
