Female hair loss at age 22- desperate for help!!?!

Question: My parents have lush thick black hair, and I did too up until a month ago. Everyone is telling me it's from stress but I'm not under a significant amount of stress. I noticed it when I was pulling my hair back in a pony tail and the thickness was almost half of what it typically is. I'm starting to get very concerned and obsessing over it. I don't have health insurance, so I can't see a dermatologist or hair specialist, but my school has a health center that I plan on going to. Any suggestions/ideas? Serious answers only please. I appreciate it!!

hello! try biotin, you can get it from a health food store, and it actually works. you also may need to have some bloodwork done for thyroid issues, see if your health center can do some blood work and see if anything is out of line.

work proactively to reduce your stress, try to start working out, make sure you are eating foods that really feed your body not just over processed stuff.

I'm 22 as well, and have had grey hair, as well as hair loss since I was about 15. I used to get harassed and told I was too stressed from kids at school, when in reality then only stress in my life with my greying hair and harassment I would get from others. I used to have thick hair but now is rather thin. If you where a man it would be seen as completly different but for women, it seems to be somthing out of the norm. And I'm sure it is more common then we think, for women to have thinning hair or even greys.

I know what it's like to not have health insurance, but I don't really think its much to worry about unless you start balding.

When I was 20 I started noticing a lot of hair in the drain after I took a shower. I went to the doctor and got diagnosed with PCOS. It's basically a hormonal disorder. I did a lot of research on the internet and found shampoo called Nioxin that is supposed to help with thinning hair. I started using it about 4-5 months ago, and it is really great. If you try it, don't get discouraged if you don't see a big difference in the first few weeks. It takes a while to see the difference because the hair that has fallen out has to start to regrow. It's kind of expensive, but I got a good deal on Ebay.

Hair loss is caused by many reasons such as malnutrition, illness, tension and other health problems. It is normal to shed some hair each day as part of a cycle of growing new hairs and loosing some. Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.
