Fibromialga: Do I have it? What do you need to ask the Dr. or what tests can be !
Question: I am so tired and hurt all the time. At first I thought it was depression. the more I read about fibromialga I think that is what is wrong? Anyone with this. Please help

I have had it for years. I was diagnosed in 1988 with it. It is painful joints and the muscles and tissues around the joints. You are always in pain, not much will take it away. When I got it they were treating it with antidepressants, which I refused to take. They also treat it with Motrin which doesn't work for long. There are tests. I went to Wheeling WV to the Dr. who discovered it for testing. You have 18 triger points. You have to have pain in at least 11 of them to have this terrible disorder. I had pain in 17 of them. They have a machine that determines the degree of pain. You don't have to say anything they will tell you the degree of pain using the machine. The only thing I can think of to ask the Dr. is who he will refer you to so you can be tested.
Fibromyalgia is difficult to diagnose, and you need to see your doctor with your concerns. Simply tell him your symptoms, he will be able to go from there.
There isn't any medical test that can determine if it's what you have. I'd go see a rhuemotologist and have lab work done. Check your sed rate & ANA profile to rule out Lupus/RA.
But, as far as Fibro goes they rule out the other autoimmune diseases first and touch pressure points on your body to diagnose Fibro. Physical therapy helps somewhat with the pain.
To my knowledge there is no one test for fibromialga. Unless they do have a test for it now... It's something that the doctors have to look at and say it's not this or this and not that or that. And then they'll say, well it could be fibromialga, lets take a closer look.
