How comes i look different from my dad and mum?!

Question: Don't say i'm adopted because i'm not.

i look like my mum but our genes are different

mum: brown eyes, brown hair, small
dad: hazel eyes, black/brown hair, 5ft 7
me: bright blue eyes, dark brown hair, 5ft

This is normal right? i have a feeling my dad isn't my real dad, i dont wanna ask him! because it might upset him XD

thanks

Theres no reason you can't have blue eyes (lucky you). It means that your mum carries one blue eyed gene and one brown eyed gene, and so does your dad. In order for you to have blue eyes, you must have inherited both of the blue genes as the blue eye gene is recessive (you need two copies of it to end up with blue eyes), there is a 1 in 4 chance of this. Eye colour is what they call "monogenic" and can be simply explained i.e. each person only carries one pair of genes with forms the eye colour.

Hair on the other hand is more complex and is what they call "polygenic" i.e. hair colour is governed by more than one pair of genes. Resulting haircolour of a couples offspring, epecially in the western world, is very likely to be a blend of both of the parents. There are exceptions of course like the red hair gene and certain eastern hair colours which are quite "dominant" in the way they carry down. In fact from what you said, your hair colour seems perfectly in between both of your parents.

As to height, your mum is small, and you are 5ft. The fact that your dad is 5ft 7 doesnt mean anything, its another one of those polygenic traits - even more so than hair coulour, as there are other things that can affect somebodies adult height.

All in all, you have no reason to believe they are not both your natural parents.

Looks can go back a couple of generations so take a look at your grandparents. Do they look like you at all? If not, i'm not sure then

but you were.

Both your parents must have the blue eye chromosome.

If your not adopted then im pretty sure their your real parents. Well not all people look like their parents, sometimes you might inherit things from your parents parents or maybe your just a rare type !
=)

it depends what other genes are in your family - what colour hair/eyes did your grandparents have?

my mum - dark brown hair & eyes
my dad - fair hair, green eyes

me - ginger hair, brown eyes
sister - medium brown hair, dark eyes

I get the ginger from my dads side even though i look nothing like him and he isnt ginger.

genes are funny things...

probably mixed from your dad and mum's features. you could also look like your grandparents.

go For a DNA test

to have a happy life, accept the parents you know as your parents, dont question it,

I really wouldnt jump to the conclusion that hes not your real dad! Lots of people dont look anything like one of their parents. You probably have bits about you from your dad that you done even notice. I look like my dad, but my two sisters look nothing like him at all. One of them looks like my mum and the other, just looks like neither of them really.

I wouldnt worry about it, but if it is on your mind then speak to your parents about it.

Grandparents, great grandparents etc. Genes go back to Adam and Eve and it just depends on which genes are dominant in you.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Have a great day!

Has the milkman got blue eyes??? Eh you never thought of that one did you!!

You are a dead ringer of the milkman.!

We all think that until we're much older and look back on all the striking resemblances. I never saw my mother in me, now I do, its quite depressing really!!!!

Don't b silly 2 ask that question. U R ok with what u have got. One does not take exactly the same hues of appearance as of their parents. Genes have a highly complicated system of origin & division resulting in variation of a person's appearance.
The parentage is decided by having DNA tests of parents & their kids but as I said earlier, u don't need to go through all this. Relax & enjoy ur parents' company as long as it lasts.

its genetics.

my kids dont look like me or their dad, he is middle eastern black eyes black hair, i have blonde/blue. their hair is mid brown and mid brown eyes. they dont look like me but they dont look like him either. my daughter who has brown/brown has 2 boys (her partner has fair/blue) one boy is like him fair/blue and the other dark like her. it sounds to me from the info that u have given that its quite possible that given the mix of yr mum and dad a child could come out with yr colouring. i think before u start worrying about yr parentage u should do some homework on genetics and the possibilities of eye/hair colour.

it's normal, or ask your mum if ur dad is ur dad

i don't look a lot like my parents but i don't mind

brown +hazel=blue (just example)
brown hair+black/brown=dark brown
height and weight is natural Lol dont confuse take care .think its a fate .OK dont worry abet that and dont get doubt with ur own parents u know?take care taake care take care.............

Were learning all about this in science!

It could be that one of your great great grandparents Had it and now its is passes on to you because that gene was the strongest in your cases.
