Is this the start of my Periods??!

Question: I have had discharge for well over 6 months now. Sometimes, the discharge is like stringy stuff n its like a long string thats stuck!!
Also, last night and a bit today I had really bad cramps and a headache.
Could this be the start of my periods? WIll it start like less than a week? I hope it doesn't coz my Mum is away for a few days so I couldn't talk to her...

Also, what if I start in school? And how can you like have a shower if blood is coming out or go to the toilet?

Thanks xxx

Dear Lucy,
I want to address the discharge first.
Has it been continueous?
Does it have an odor?
Anything in the way of looking like cottage cheese?
If any of the above are yes, you need a check up to see
if you are having a little problem that needs a little medicine

You sound like you need to make a little start my period kit.
The school nurse can help you with your questions. You should bet a baggie and pack a little pad or panty liner, a pair of undies too. You can always go home from school if
you get it, but it won't amount to much at first. Then when you are home you can try out a tampon.

As far as taking a shower or going to the toilet, it sounds like noone has given you the period talk. You can and will do both, and if there is any blood you will wipe if off with the toilet paper. In the shower you can wipe it off afterward. You can use a paper towel if you don't want to spot up mom's towels.

Please see if there is an adult around youcan talk to about this. It is not a big deal and you will do fine. I think you might be getting it real soon, like maybe even tonight..who knows.
Think about talking to one of your friend's moms that you like.
Mosy people love to help young women in need of information.
Maybe one of your neighbors is a nurse. You could go knock on the door and ask if she can take a few minutes to talk to you in private. It won't take long..and you will feel better.Remember that most nurses are in the nursing profession to help people, and this is a really easy topic that we all go through. Good luck

Yes i think so, you are getting very close!

this sounds like the start of your period, just make sure to take a pad or a tampon to school incase.

If you are worried about starting in school just take a couple pads or tampons to school with you in your locker or packpack. my 1st period was WAY light. So howfully yours will be too.

How old are you? If it happens at school, the nurse will help you out. It could be the start of it. Just be ready for it.

Blood doesn't come out when you're in water.

Ok ok I have had my period since November 25 and you will probobly get it sometime around a month and what I would do is
carry a pad or tampon in your purse ( if you don't have one get one) and your period is the last thing you want it is horrible I could not even swim in cape cod with my sister and cousin because of it.

It could be that you will get your period soon. I'm sorry to hear you're Mom is away but I'm sure you will be fine.
Does she have any pads in the house that you can take with you to school in case? If not, you can always go to the school nurse and she will give you something.
Don't worry you will be able to shower normally and goe to the toilet. There will just be blood involved.

Good luck!

I think you've started your periods or are coming close. What I do if I start a period and I'm not at home where I can just get a pad and be done with it is go to the bathroom and either buy a pad out of the machine or (if I was out of money) fold up a bunch of toilet paper and place it in my underwear.

You can still take showers and go to the toilet. My blood never noticably came out during a shower.

Ibuprofen works great on the cramps and headaches.

Well your getting close but it is never that bad when you first start, and if you start at school then go to the nurse and ask her for pads or tampons, and when your in water like if your swimming, or in the shower, it stops while you are in the water, but when you go to the bathroom on the toilet then yeah blood is going to come out!

1st u cant b sure when u will start but.............its sounds like fm the signs that your very close so everything is normal!!!!
next u should start taking pads to school with you in a small purse or something just incase you start!!!
& lastly when your in the shower your flow of your period tends to slow down and you go to the toilet just as you would when your not on your period!!
so gd luck & dnt worry

Your probably about to start.
Keep a pad or tampon with you, and at school wear dark jeans and pantyliners in your underwear.
Is there any way you can get a hold of your mom? maybe email or phone?

Blood isn't constantly coming out of you, it's more like drips.

Once you start you'll realize what I mean.

this is what you do at school
when u have your period wear tennis shoes and put a pad in there when u need to change it

You can bleed while you are in the shower. I have also bled while submersed in water before. As far as tampons go...they make it easier for you to be in water and not have leakage.
Sometimes you start bleeding out of no where but other times you kind of feel like you should get to a bathroom fast. Bring a pad with you everywhere you go. You can also carry tampons with you. If you are really nervous you can wear a pad while you are at school until you know for sure how to tell when it's coming (thats what I did when I started getting it the for the first time). I know its scary but it does get easier. I've had my period now for around 16 or 17 years. You learn to read your body.

If you really need more advice and your mother isn't home when you get it you can always speak to a school nurse or any adult in which you trust and can confide in without feeling embarrassed. Good luck!
