Period EMERGENCY!!!?!

Question: One of my 20 year old friends asked me for advice, and I don't know what to tell her. She seems to have her periods for 3-4 weeks at a time, but hardly ever/never experiences cramps, bloating, emotional outbursts, etc... She seems to have her periods at a frequency fo maybe 5-6 a year. Is this normal/should she see a gynecologist about this? Also, she's never had sex, so she and I both know that she's not pregnant.

She probably has a hormonal issue. She should talk to her gyno and see what she thinks because if it is hormones it can probably be fixed with birth control. However, not getting menstrual symptoms is normal for some women. I do get bloated sometimes but I almost never get cramps. Its different for everyone, some people get all of those symptoms some get non of them.

Woah! That is insanely long! I would get it checked to make sure it's not a cyst or something causing it.

she should see a gyno

When periods go on for a long time, that means there is something wrong. My friend had this problem, where it wouldn't stop. If she goes to a doctor, they will give her birth control which can regulate her period to only be a few days long. (yes birth control has other purposes then to control birth) Also, there may be something else wrong, like an infection if she is getting periods that long. She shouldn't worry about not getting cramps and stuff because some women just don't get them.

I would tell her to go see a doctor and tell them about everything thats going on. He/She will probably perscribe birth control or refer her to a different doctor that will be able to help her.

good luck to her friend.

"should she see a gyno..."?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY has she not checked this out with her doctor yet?

She could have some very serious health risks and issues going on.

Have her call a doctor asap.
