Provera???!

Question: So I went to the doctors today because I'm very late for my period and she didn't do a pregnancy test or anything. she just gave me a prescription for provera and had me get blood drawn but it was to see if my thyroid was working properly...I thought this was strange but is this the normal thing for doctors to do?

Usually when docs do blood tests they automatically check to see if you are preggers so make sure you ask about that when your test results come back.

Thyroid problems can cause period problems also she might be checking for PCOS which cause period problems too.

If it wasn't I guess they wouldn't have done it. But next time you are at the doctors and you are unsure of what they are doing, ask them. it's the only way to know for sure.

If you have been sexually active you should get a pregnancy test before taking the provera, it will cause birth defects. If that isn't an issue, then yes it is normal. If you have a history of late or missed periods you might check to see if you might have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) It will take about 6 days after your last pill to start your period.
