Effects of taking Plan B twice in one week...quite long but PLEASE READ?!

Question: First off, I know this makes me come off as very irresponsible and I guess I have to live with that but please understand that we all make mistakes and this was one really big one of mine. Anyway so last week fri. I had sex for the first time ever and although we used condoms and they didn't break, I went ahead just as a precaution and took the plan b/morning after pill. Yesterday however, we had sex again and this time, the condoms broke for sure! The pre c u m DID get inside me for sure but he didn't ejaculate inside me. Yes, I know that's enough for me to get pregnant. Well so afterward, I ended up taking the plan B pill about 3 or 4 hrs after the sex. Both times with the pills, I have had no symptoms at all. I had what seemed like spotting last night(2 hrs after the pack's first pill) but that could've been blood from my hymen since this was only my second time and I didn't bleed the first time at all. I only noticed the blood when I wiped though so there wasn't alot of, not even..

Plan B is stated to be 89% effective - therefore - if your period is later than 19 - 23 days from the 14th of March you should take a pregnancy test to rule that out. It won't hurt you that you took 2 doses this week - but as you've already heard from everyone - it's best that you get on BC so that you won't keep putting high dose hormones in your body. It's good that you took it so soon after the condom broke - that increases the possibilty of Plan B working and you will be less likely to become pregnant. Oh, and for AW who answered - Plan B is OTC - therfore the doctor wouldn't tell her about it.

this is way to long

First off, QUIT HAVING SEX until you are 100% responsible with it. You obviously are not ready for it if you are resorting to Plan B two times in 7 days REGARDLESS of the resons. Where are your parents in all this?

That being said, Plan B is a VERY high dose of female hormones. The doctor prescribing them to you should have explained everything to you BOTH times it was given to you.

I would think taking this twice in one week would not be good but read the package precautions and warnings to be sure.

You might want to call your gynecologist and let him know you would like birth control pills. It is a small price to pay for the security and would be a better back up to condoms that the morning after pill.

As far as being pregnant- I would assume not. I thought that was the point of taking Plan B.

Go to your GYN and get birth control pills. Also tell your GYN about this and let them thoroughly berate you for being so irresponsible.

well usualy when girls take the plan B pill they get sick.
some dont tho and usualy it makes you start your period in a couple days even if its not time for you to have it.
and the blood i dont think would have been from you having sex..it might be but it could be from taking the pill.
i think since you took the pill and he didnt c*m in you then you should be ok.
usualy ive heard good outcomes of the plan B
but if i were you i would go on birth control now since you are sexualy active.

There shouldnt be anything to worry about. The morning after pill is suppose to be taken within 72 hours of having sex and since you immediately took it you should be fine. But the doctor who gave you the perscription for the medicine should have told you the risks(if any) of taking them all in one week. Since you did take the pill, it might effect your period and cause you to be late. You should be ok since the morning after pills are pretty safe. If you have any doubt though i recommend that you go see a doctor for preffesional advice. You should also think about going on birth control. It will be a big help for you and help you to stop stressing about getting pregant whenever you have sex.
Good Luck

I am not being judgmental but you need to stop having sex until you are prepared with the information you need to keep your self safe. If you are not in a position to talk with a parent or other knowledgeable adult you know than make an appointment to see your doctor. If you don't have a doctor look up the local planned parenthood clinic. Don't tell us you can't afford a doctor, if you are mature enough for sex you are mature enough to do what you need to to do take care of your self.

Condoms can fail as you found out (btw 1 out of every 10 condoms is defective). Oral contraceptives can fail, all birth control and STD prevention methods have a failure rate except abstinence and apparently that ship sailed.

Plan B should be just that a back up plan in case the first plan does not work. But in order to have a good back up plan you need to know the risks you are taking. Talking to a doctor who knows about you and your lifestyle including the medications and supplements you are taking is really the best way to understand the risks of any medication including plan B.

Good luck.

Back to your question... you probably are not pregnant. Plan B is simply 2 high dose birth control pills. Quite a many years ago, women took these pills every day as some of the earlier birth control pills. Women were also put on these pills to control irregular bleeding. Women also took these pills when the lower dose birth control pills were causing break-through bleeding. Break- through bleeding happens when the hormone level is not high enough to sustain the bleeding- the lower hormone level gives the signal for the uterus to "bleed."

I am not a doctor, but this may be what happened to you. Normally, a person should take a constant dose of hormone. But you took 2 high dose pills, then you took 2 high dose pills
afterwards, thus confusing your body into an emotional see-saw, causing some bleeding.

Now, Cilantro, I want you to listen carefully. I know that you have learned your lesson. Let's now go forward. If you are to be sexually active, get to a clinic and get some pills. If you don't like them, use condoms with contraceptive jelly as a backup. There are other options available to you, also.
Go see someone- if you are in the US, Planned Parenthood is a nice option.

All the best to you-
Antonio

Plan B works in a couple of different ways, the main one being stopping or delaying ovulation. You don't mention where you are in your menstrual cycle. Pregnancy is usually possible during the 10th thru the 16th day after your period ends. Taking Plan B after the 1st sexual encounter was unnecessary since there was no contraceptive failure. Plan B is a poor (not to mention expensive) form of birth control. I hope by the age of 20 you have a gynecologist. Talk to them!!!! If you are not a candidate for hormonal birth control, they will be able to give you alternatives. Please remember that BC is very effective for preventing pregnancy, it does nothing to prevent STD'S.Keep insisting on condom use by your partner

no idea! you should talk to a gyno. but i do know this much. after taking the plan b once my menstrual cycle was really off. i did not get it for 2 months. then i got it for 10 days. then i got it 2 weeks later again. eventually it went back to normal.
good luck!
