Are my hormones out of whack?!

Question: For the last 10 years I have been irregular (menstrual cycle), but for the last 2 years I have gone through periods where I would miss 2 months or have a period that would last a month. I took birth control (progesterone- just 10 pills for 10 days) to regulate my period, and this worked for about 3 months. Now I am worst than ever. On top of that I feel nauseated most of the time, and headaches off and on. My mom believes this is why I have been emotionally up and down. Why is my body acting this way? Eventually I will have to go and get another prescription of progesterone. Why are my hormones out of whack?

I want to add that I am a virgin, so this is not related to anything sexual.

Has the doctor done tests to check your hormone levels? My friend went through seriously irregular periods her whole life, and they discovered she has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). There is usually a reason your periods don't regulate, and the doctor should be able to find those reasons. It may require taking hormones to fix. But there are other holistic treatments your doctor may help you try. Being overweight or underweight can have a serious effect on your hormones. Google PCOS and see if the symptoms sound similar to yours, and see what treatments are out there.

hmm menopause maybe? i dont know, just throwing something out there..

It sounds like you need hormone therapy in there That will regulate you

I would talk to your gyn about your thyroid hormone levels and PCOS. Both cause irregular periods.

Have they down bloodwork to see what your hormone levels look like? If not they need to do this. I would see a good gynecologist.

I would see my GYN. Get blood work done and get him to check your thyroid. It could be as simple as hormones. I do not think I would get on Hormone Replacement Therapy HRT, it is many bad risks.
