Posture problems?!

Question: I have been exercising for the past 2 months and it consists of doing lots of crunches and I also slouch when i am sitting. I was wondering could these things cause bad posture. I feel like my spine is being curved. Today i was out shopping and there were lots of mirrors, everytime i looked at myself, it kinda looked like i have a hunchback and its been freaking me out. I have decided to sit right at all times now, hopefully this will help.

Knowing dressing room mirrors and the effect they can have, you're probably over-reacting.

I was once so paranoid about my posture I went to the dr. convinced I had scoliosis (curvature of the spine). The doctor told me I was just a normal tall teenager that slouches a lot to look not-so-tall.

But...

The body's muscles are meant to work in pairs. One muscle will pull your arm in, the "opposite" muscle will pull it the other way to straighten it. So if you are exercising the muscles that control bending forward, you should be counter-balancing that by also exercising the muscles that support your body the other way (back muscles).

If in doubt, talk to your doctor about a good exercise regime to make sure you are getting a balanced work out.

Ballet is very good for your posture, and it's good exercise. I highly recommend taking ballet classes.

Well if it is from your exercises, then this is no big deal. After you do your exercises, lay on your stomach, put your hands right below your shoulders, and push your chest up. Make sure you keep your pelvis on the ground, though. And if this is not because of the exercises, then go to a doctor and mention this and they might say you have scoliosis. =(

You don't state your age or sex; could you have osteoporosis that is the cause of your curved spine?

i have posture problems from sitting for long periods of time at lectures. the physiotherapist recommended pilates.
you could try that.
