Swimming with a tampon?!

Question: okay, i have swimming tommorow, and that will be my second day of my period, which isn't good, i know. i have super tampons, so they're able to hold out, but what exactly happens to a tampon when you're swimming? and in this swimming i'm talking about doing crawl, backstroke, sidestroke, not just floating around in the pool (it's an actual class at my school). and will it leak? and how much? my flow is kind of inbetween light and heavy, like it can go either way. personal experience stories would be a lot of help, too. thanks!

DONT WORRY!
i'm a swimmer (so i do all the strokes, rigourously)
and i was so worried that i would leak, but it never happens!
(unless your tampon is old, then leaking can happen easily)
the water pressure acutually holds the tampon and blood inside your body, so there is no need to worry.
just use one of the "sport" or 360 protection ones right before you go swimming, and you'll be fine!!
water usualy doesn't get up there either

just dont sit with your legs apart or anything like that!

man i have this same exact problem i start swimming in school tomorrow and i have my period

Nothing "happens" as such. They just enable you to swim without worrying! Just insert a fresh tampon before going in to the water.

Mine don't typically leak when I go swimming with one. Just make sure you change it regularly, especially right before you are going to swim. As long as you are on top of when the tampon is getting saturated, you can avoid leaks. Just check on it every 30 minutes to an hour with a gentle tug on the string. If it feels like it's going to slide out without hardly any discomfort, it's time to change it. If it's firmly lodged in there and it feels like it'd be pretty painful to take out, you're still safe.

You can also use the type of flow you had on your last period as a guide towards determining when you need to change the tampon. It may be as infrequent as every 4 hours, or as soon as 2.

Put in a brand new tampon right before you began to swim. Use the proper size for your body and menstrual flow. Make sure that you keep an eye on your bathing suit while swimming to look for signs of leakage. If you did not insert the tampon right, it could slip out and you can leak.

GOOD LUCK!!!
ENJOY YOUR SWIM!!

If you put a fresh tampon in just before your class, and it is inserted correctly, it should not leak. You will know if its in correctly because you wont be able to feel it, it will be comfortable for you. The tampon should be inserted high enough inside the vagina that the pool water shouldn't reach it. Don't worry, activity will not make a difference.

Swimming as a Class, Youch! If you were worried why did you choose it as a class?

There's really no way to predict if it will leak, but I wouldn't jump in the water with one htat's been in you for a while. Use a new one.

If you change your tampon right before you start you swimming, and then change again when you get out you should be fine. The tampon will expand with the water but you won't leak the water pressure stops the flow of the blood for a bit. Good Luck! Oh and don't forget to tuck the string into your swim suit and make sure that it stays there. ( that would be super embarrassing !)

Absolutely nothing will happen. Once the tampon is in place it is high up enough to only do the job it is there for (ie, collect blood, not water!).

It will not fall out, or swell up with water, so don't worry.

The string might get wet- but that is it, and that is inside your costume! No-one will know.

Honestly! xx

You shouldn't have any problems in the water with a tampon, especially a super one. They're made for you to be able to go in the water while wearing one. Leak factor is zero to nil so swim without fear! I bodyboard and surf and sometimes it is that time of the month but I have never had any problems, even on heavy days.

If you're worried though, ask to use the restroom halfway through your class and change it. You probably won't need to but it may give you a little peace of mind.

The tampon stays in there soaking up the menstrual flow. It will soak up a LITTLE BIT of the pool water, so change it after you are done swimming.
