Contraception Injection!!?!

Question: Have any women out there had the contraception injection - 'Depo-Provera'? Have you had any side effects? i've done research on the net and i found the obvious with not getting periods through out the time that your covered (12-14 weeks), also being safe while breast feeding etc. But is there anything else anyone knows from experience? I've heard also of headaches and dryness down stairs.. has anyone had these experiences? anything else?

I was on Depo-Provera for 2 years. One thing I WILL say is it definatly messes with your fertility AFTER you come off it too, it took me 2 years of trying after coming off it to concieve my daughter, so think about that.

I didnt bleed or get a period at all when I was on depo, not even spotting. So that was a bonus haha! I had a few friends who put on weight when they were on it, but me personally it worked really well for me, no side effects whatsoever. As I said only thing that DID bother me was that I was off it for 2 years before I finally fell pregnant.

It is a good method of contractption for birth control tho, its pretty much fool proof, unlike the pill where you forget one pill, your screwed the rest of the month

One of my good friends was on depo for two years and she can no longer have children because of it. It's been shown to be the least safe of all contraception drugs.

It also causes weight gain. And can cause moodyness

I don't know about that but research the Mirina IUD - it's awesome- it last 5 years!

I normally get the depo shot but i would suggest that if you are thinking that you may want a baby in the next few years it may not be for you because it can stop you falling pregnant for quite a while after you stop taking it. Talk to your Dr though about your options. There may be something else out there that would suite you better, or this could be the right thing for you. Good luck
