Well, if you don't use it for a long time, get it replaced; the rubber deteriorates!
Don't use Vaseline with it, either.
And be sure to pee after sex; the pressure from the ring can make it more likely you'll get a bladder infection.
Otherwise, they have much to recommend them. They are effective for birth control if used with a spermicide and they aren't intrusive (you can put them in ahead of time). They don't protect against STDs the way condoms do, however.
I'd practice putting it in (using lubricant) well before you need it. That's the only trick...
