Period problem.?!

Question: I am in my teenage years but I am really late on my period like 3 or 4 months and there arent really any signs that I may be starting soon. And I have never had sex so I cannot be pregnant. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could mean? My mom had the same problems when she was my age and know she cant have any more kids. Could it possibly be something genetic? I am also really nervous about getting braces and I didnt know if nerves can affect your period or not.

being stressed out can cause your period to stop. don't worry, braces aren't that bad i have them. and my period is irregular too. but it's because im under-weight. i used to worry about it but i don't because im not having sex so i don't have to being pregnant. it comes when it feels like it! i drink Ensure to get the vitamins and everything that i normally don't get. it has been working for me lately. if it still concerns you, you could always go to your doctor's! good luck! oh btw, the longest i've gone without a period was 4-5 months!

I would ask your mom. It can be delayed a few weeks by stress but not that long.

you should talk to a doctor. nerves do affect your stress levels, which affect your period, but not by months.

see a doctor.......

Did you just get it this year or last year? If you did, it's completely normal. Your period is very, very irregular in your first/second year. Don't get scared, it's fine.

if ur mom had it than dont worry or just go to the docter

well stress can make you stop your period. also when you first start your periods will not get regular till your a bit older. it is normal and would not worry. you can always have your mom take you in to the dr to get checked out if it is really bothering you.

Sometimes stress and stuff can make your body work in weird ways, but you are also just starting your period so your body is just getting used to have one. It might be something genetic so maybe you want to see a doctor. I mean its better to be safe then sorry.

Hi there! Please go see your doctor, it's good to talk about that stuff with them. Just go for a friendly casual visit, it will put your worriness at ease. Just please GO TO THE DOCTOR. You clearly aren't pregnant and its probably similar to what your mother had but if you go to the doctors, maybe they can do something about it early. good luck.

p.s. GO TO THE DOCTOR

I got mine in 7th grade
had it for a year. Than It stopped
for a year, than i had it for a year
than i am not getting it right now.
It is perfectly normal unless you are like
older than 18

i know it can be delayed by a month or two by stress or being around certain people. It could possibly be like you said genetic, ask you mom and then go see a docotor in case anything is wrong.

DONT WORRY!. Your young so you probably didn't start it that long ago and its very irregular when it starts. I've had mine to 2 years and its still irregular. Don't worry, it will come

u should go to the doctor and have it checked out. u really should cuz there is something abnormal with ur body that u have to get fixed. hope that helps. :)

I think is normal for teenagers to skip periods that's what my daughters pediatrician said. Though check with your doctor.

stress totally effects it. your not grown in to your body yet. it would take a few years to get on a normal track. go see a gyno. it might be a serious probably.

Talk with parents or a female with whom you feel comfortable speaking with. If you don't have any than call your doctor and speak with them.

braces have nothing to do with it-- stress does. that could be messing stuff up. My best guess is that it is simply genetic. However, i would miss my period two months or so at a time when i was younger so it could also be completely normal.. check with your doc.

Yes it could be genetic. It is hard to give 1 answer as to what it may be though. I know this is obvious, but it is important to talk to a OB/GYN. The appointemnt is painful and while you are there you can ask all of the quesiotns you want. The first thing you want to do is talk to your mother. Apparently your mother could have children because she had you. Something else caused her to not be able to have children.

i got it wen i was 13 now im 17 but like i must have gone like 6 months increment of periods and then it picked up 2 4 month and now im regulated .. u jus hav an iregular period 4 now... my advice 2 u is to wait it out till ur body regulates it anENJOY that u don have it every month cuz u will get sick of it ...

If you don't have a regular period (and some women, esp in their teens don't) then it could be nerves and you might not have anything to worry about. If you're normally pretty regular, then you should definitely see a doctor. Yes, nerves can affect your period, so can stress, but not to that degree. I wouldn't worry until you find out what the doctor says. It could be any number of things, a lot of which are harmless and easily fixed.

Nerves can definately affect your periods. Trust me I used to get all stressed out in High School and my period would be like 2 months late. You probably have nothing to worry about. But talk to your mom to make yourself feel better and ask her what it was about her periods that made her not be able to have kids anymore. Maybe she had fibroids, or endometriosis, or maybe even polycystic ovarian suyndrome. Ask her if it was one of those. She will probably tell you that whatever she had probably wont affect you in any way. Good luck and stop stressing.

well i can tell you since im in training for medical school that it can be scary getting braces and that can effect your period if you are more stressed it can also when having the period make it heavier it does to me. also if your mother had problems and she had some of the same symptoms then i would suggest that you get a health care person to take a look at you. it could be nothing or it could be something they can treat now but if you keep waiting then a lot of times they cant do anything to help. so i would say keep a smile on your face and if it continues to bother u tell your mom or someone you feel like you can. good luck

You might have irregular periods or you are really stressed out, Don't worry about the fertility thing. It doesn't work that way. The closest thing in finding out how you easy/hard is going to get pregnant is by your sister or girl first cousin.
But you see the doctor if it is other possibilities, like hormonal imbalances and stuff.
If it makes you feel any matter, when I was a teenager, I missed my period from time to time, and it was nothing more than stress. And I have kids:)
PS Teenagers girls get irregulars periods beacause their body is still settling with the hormones, and it might be it.

Yes genetics is a major factor when it comes down to your reproductive system or you've might of inherited something from that origin or something that your aunts or sisters might carry in there gene and yes stress can delay your period so take it easy braces aren't that bad it's better to get it done now than be 21 with braces believe me you'll be thanking your mom when you get older............I would recommend you see a Gyn doctor and speak to him/her about your concerns and tell your mom make sure your doctor listens to your concerns alot of them tend to brush it off sometimes*

yes stess can have an effect on it. it could also be genetic. talk to a doc if you are really worried. could be endometriosis or PCOS. I have them both and often miss periods for several months at a time.

Well I it could be the first signs of pcos, which is a form of infertility. I had the same problems when I was your age I'm 23 now married and no kids. This problem does not have a cure but it can be treated. However, the doctor's will always tell you to maintain a healthy weight which means be as close to your healthy body weight as possible before they starting prescribing meds. With all that said it can also be stress. And yes PCOS inherited.

nerves, stress, illness, etc can effect your period.

it may be hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)...I would only have a period every 3 to 4 months from day one until 25. every doctor would say oh your mom was like its genetic. turned out it wasn't. I went to a doctor knowing I was not pregnant. He tested for it automatically. Ask your mom to take you to the doctor, its a matter of a simple blood test. I take synthroid everyday and will until the day I die and its not affected my fertility. And insist that he find out if there is something wrong or it is just nerves.

this is something to discuss with your mother and a doctor and possibly a gynocologist no one can tell you whats wrong via yahoo answers

ok
