Does anyone else (females) stay bloated and fat DURING their period vs. before?!

Question: Hey! So whenever I get my period (which isnt very often, im quite irregular, im 19 by the way so it isnt a "getting used to my pattern" time...my gyno and I are still working on what to do)

ANYWAYS my PMS symptoms (bloating, fat stomach, cravings, mood swings, depressed) continue even throughout my period vs. just before it as well. The symptoms are really effecting my well-being...such as going to the gym, having energy, eating well etc.

Anyone else? is this normal? how can I make the bloating go down? Feel better? ANY Tips on dealing with this? (besides going on the Pill)
I guess I dont get my period often enough to know how to necessarily handle these things in the best way.

Thanks!!

I too have PMS symptoms and they are awful, I always feel fat during my period.
Heres some tips to help dealing with PMS (Bloating, breast tenderness, mood swings, cravings, depression etc etc)
Step 1:
Take an ibuprofen or naproxen sodium-based pain reliever. These reduce swelling, which helps with the cramping of the uterus from swelling. They also reduce pain caused by swelling in breasts which is common with premenstrual syndrome, or PMS.

Step 2:
Use a heating pad. Heating pads relax muscles and relieve pain in the lower abdomen or lower back. There are also stick on heating patches that last for up to eight hours that help deal with premenstrual pain.

Step 3:
Use diuretics preceding the period and during. Diuretics reduce bloating, which is extremely uncomfortable, and very common during PMS.

Step 4:
Break meals into six small meals a day. Stomach upset is relieved by cutting meals in half and increasing the number of meals eaten. This breaks up digestion. Increasing fiber intake can also help an upset stomach which is common with premenstrual syndrome.

Step 5:
Take a multivitamin. This ensures that PMS is not due to vitamin deficiency, and ensures that cravings and food choices will not drain the body of nutrients.

Step 6:
Talk to a doctor about premenstrual problems. If PMS symptoms are unbearable to deal with alone, a physician can pinpoint causes, and if necessary prescribe medication. Anything from antidepressants to migraine relief, and even pain relievers to deal with severe pain. A gynecologist can rule out any serious problems, such as endometriosis or cysts.
Hope this helps and sorry that it is so long

i get the same way when i have to poop

Yes. My bloating doesn't go down until my period is nearly over. I think that's very common.

Drinking lots of water will help reduce bloating. Sounds strange, I know, but it helps flush you out and get your water balance back in liine.

I felt like this, and noticed that swapping out chocolate for fruit and veg for a few days prior helped- especially with the mood swings.

This happens to me too .
I normally pop a couple advil for my cramps & they go away.

Midol also works for cramps as well as bloating .. plus, I feel 100 x's better ..

try it out !

Its common for girls.

I am not sure what is your diet like , but you seem too young to have this kind of extreme bloating. I did not notice PMS until after 30. I would try to limit all carbs and add more fruits and veggies in your diet. If possible I would get a juicer and juice combination of carrots, red beat and cucumber. Drink it every day. it doesn't taste the best, but it is better then a pill

I get that way right before, after or during my period.. it varies.. I have some strange cycles I go through that I don't want to bore you with. Around my period, sometimes I can barely fit in to my own jeans and (stupid of me, i know) i get confused about if my boobs got larger or not.. I got on the pill because of the mood swings and depression but.. I've been on it for a week and I'd rather be off it. I'm more depressed than before and now I can't sleep. I have no idea how to help you.. I usually just walk the bike trail we have in town or hug a heating pad and some chocolate, though that isn't really healthy. I'm a wimp.. Try some home remedies.Google it? Heh.. Actually, now that I think about it.. a mixture of milk, cinnamon and vanilla worked for me. a tea spoon of vanilla and maybe half of that for the cinnamon because it doesn't mix too well with liquids.. it likes to form itself in a bubble and stay dry.. it doesn't taste bad and it helped me. it helped with cramps as well.

I do feel bloated n fat atleast during the beginning of my period.I take a pain killer (coz i get severe back ache) and apply deep heat balms like the ones we use for back ache and apply it all over my lower abdomen n lower back and lay in bed inside a bed cover. Its very relieving and i feel less bloated....ofcourse i avoid the gym too...and not eat much
