I'm terrified of tampons!?!

Question: I have been on my period for about 5 years, since 5th grade. But I've always been a pad user. Tampons sound much better for swimming and other activities, but everytime I even think about sticking it 'up there' I literally cringe. Any tips on how to relax, and if putting it in is painful?

Just use a light one.
I suggest using "Kotex" brand, those are the ones that work best for me.
I was scared at first too.. My advice, make sure you push it up far enough, if you feel it when your walking, its not up far enough.. It WILL NOT GET STUCK, so dont worry about that.
Its hard getting started, but once you do, you wont regret it, its like your not on your period at all. And you dont have that gross feeling that you get when you use a pad.. ewwie

well, to tell the truth, it IS awkward at first. but when summer rolled around, i would rather wear a tampon than leak feminine fluids in the pool!

so, just sit on the toilet, relax and follow the instructions. do this as many times as possible so you can get it right by the time you actually NEED to use one.

one problem i had at first is that it wouldnt go in far enough so it would be uncomfortable. so when inserting stick the tampon in so that almost all that is "sticking out" it the applicator and the base of the tampon holder thing. then what i do is saying im going to push it in at the count of five, but then do it on the count of three to like trick my brain?

practice makes perfect. now, tampons is all i wear!

wow, writing this answer sounded a little, bleeh, but i hope i helped!

:D

i have always used a tampon since i first got it. It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. it doesn't hurt to insert, as long as you do it at the correct angle. its better to use tampons i find as pads can tend to smell icky. can also wear tampons for longer than a pad. Definately use applicator tampons, they make it alot easier. and if you do use them, make sure you put it in far enough cause it gets very uncomfortable otherwise.
