Why won't my hair grow longer and stop breaking?!

Question: my hair hasn't grown more than 4 inches in my whole life im 15, my mother shaved my hair all off when i was 3 and then again when i was 9 because she thought it would grow back faster but it never grew back long or fast its actually still growing from the last cut and its less than 3 inches i bet it would be longer if it didn't break alot, so now my mother braids my hair with exstentions i have african american texture hair... i went to a dermatologist when i was maybe 11 and they said to eat meat because my iron could be low but it didn't help, i don't get it whats wrong with me im tired of using exstentions. so why won't it grow or stop breaking have any ideas?
p.s before i went to the dermatologist i never used to wear extenions or braid it i just permed it once and that was it and at the dermatologist they said it breaks easily just by pulling it a little.

part of this could be because you wear extensions. They put a lot of stress on your baby hairs trying to grow in.

Also, african american hair is usually much more brittle than other ethnicities tend to be so it breaks very easily.

There are some things you can try tho. First off, try to get a shampoo with a lot of moisture and protein. it will be more expensive than your average shampoo but will really help. here is a website you can check out

Also, you can go to your local walmart in the vitamins section and pick up "Hair and Nails" vitamins or a vitamin with biotin in it. Biotin helps you hair and nails to grow and if you are taking more than usual it will grow faster.

Hair is very delicate and has to be treated that way in order to keep it healthy to a point where it can grow. Avoid using heat for styling (blowdryer and straightening iron) as much as possible and try not to wash it every day. maybe only twice a week in your case.

i hope this helped

I have a 12 year old transracially adopted daughter, so caring for ethnic hair is something I've been well-educated on, for a Caucasian!

Your hormones have a lot to do with it. My niece is biracial and her hair really didn't grow well until she was over 20. I'm assuming that you've already been using the right products and moisturerizers.

In the meantime, keep your hair braided. It will grow better and break less when in protective braids. I notice a difference every time the braids are taken down. Also, make sure that your braids aren't too tight!

I have heard of women taking prenatal vitamins for healthy hair--seriously! My hair never looked better than when I was pregnant.

Good luck!

Massaging makes a lot of difference to the rate at which hair grows, so a regular massage with any oil of your choice is recommended to speed up the process. Try http://solutionsforhairgrowth.blogspot.c... for more details.
