Yeast infection? something else? can someone please help?!

Question: This is an awkward question for me so can you please be kind everyone? only answer if you know what you are talking about. i've had discharge for years (got my period 2 years ago) and i noticed i get more and more discharge all the time. and it's starting to smell like vinegar. i don't know what that means. do i have some infection or something? it doesn't hurt to pee, my periods are normal. the discharge is uncomfortable now, i have been using pantyliners but it is a lot more discharge than usual. it's clearish though, so that makes me think it's ok?

Yeast infection discharge has no smell and is whitish so it definitely isn't that. I suggest you see your doctor and get a vaginal exam just to be sure. If it is starting to make you uncomfortable that is all the more reason to get it checked out.

Sounds like it could be an infection hon. See your doctor to check it out.

It sounds like a bacterial infection which is very common in women and usually caused by stress. Antibiotics will help rid of it. I have had it a few times and its not sexually transmitted or can be transmitted. Sometimes they even go away themselves.

Ah - the wonders of female hormones. It will not hurt to have your doctor check it out. Because you say it has a "vinegary" smell makes me think it's normal because usually if it is an infection it has a distinctly yucky smell - sometimes fishy, sometimes other.

Here is a little info on Leukorrhea (which is what you're talking about)

"Leukorrhea (US) or leukorrhoea (Commonwealth) is a medical term that denotes a thick, whitish vaginal discharge. It is a natural defense mechanism the vagina uses to maintain it's chemical balance, as well as to preserve the flexibilty of the vaginal tissue. It may also result from inflammation or congestion of the vaginal mucosa. In cases where it is yellowish or gives off an odor, a doctor should be consulted since it could be a sign of an STD."

I found that as I was maturing sexually (hitting that stage where your body is saying "MAKE A BABY MAKE A BABY") that my cervical mucus was more noticeable and just more there...there was like 3 years I wore panty liners every day. After 2 kids and a few contraceptives later, it's not as bad :)

BUT - if in doubt, call your Doc...they usually know what they're talking about :)
