Anorexia is a serious disease which includes a lot of problems both to your mental and physical health. An anorectic person may have a healthy mind, except from the thoughts about food, appearance and weight, but these thoughts may be so extremely unhealthy that it will cause mentally and physically harm to your body. You can imagine it like there was someone else who suddenly got control of your body, and tells you what to do in order to lose weight. As these thoughts develops, other unhealthy thoughts may be added, especially when the weight is on a low level, decreasing the brain function. Depression is common, there is not much to look forward to when you go hungry most of the day, which also makes you feel weak, and normal activities may be hard to complete. Your brain needs food to function, and when your body doesn't get the nutritions it needs, it will enter starvation mode. This is a defense system, your body enters in extreme situation where it realize it lack the nutritions it needs for a while. What happens in starvation mode, is that the body slow down your metabolism in order to burn less calories and store fat. Fat is essential to protect organs. However, your body doesn't just enter starvation mode, and then everything is fine, decreased metabolism will also slow down many of the most important processes your body have. Your blood flow will decrease, your heart will beat slower, and all this will affect other processes and slow them down, like for example how your brain function. It wont work properly, and you wont be able to think as clear as you would if you were healthy. This will give "nutritions" to negative thoughts, and make it more difficult to think healthy.

In extreme cases, watching TV, reading, or doing any other activities that needs a bit of concentration may cause headaches or dizziness, making these activities more painful than fun and interesting.

Different forms of anxiety may also develop, sensitivity to light and touch, tiredness, weakness and coldness are also things that may happen.

Some of the other consequences are:

Physical

* Stunted growth
* Endocrine disorder, leading to cessation of periods in girls (amenorrhoea)
* Decreased libido; impotence in males
* Starvation symptoms, such as reduced metabolism, slow heart rate (bradycardia), hypotension, hypothermia and anemia
* Abnormalities of mineral and electrolyte levels in the body
* Thinning of the hair (makes your hair look weird and ugly)
* Growth of lanugo hair over the body
* Constantly feeling "cold"
* Zinc deficiency
* Reduction in white blood cell count
* Reduced immune system function (increases chance of getting several diseases, usually harmless diseases like flue may put your health at risk)
* Pallid complexion and sunken eyes
* Creaking joints and bones
* Collection of fluid in ankles during the day and around eyes during the night
* Tooth decay
* Constipation
* Dry skin
* Dry or chapped lips
* Poor circulation, resulting in common attacks of 'pins and needles' and purple extremities
* In cases of extreme weight loss, there can be nerve deterioration, leading to difficulty in moving the feet
* Headaches
* Brittle fingernails
* Bruising easily

Psychological

* Distorted body image
* Poor insight
* Self-evaluation largely, or even exclusively, in terms of their shape and weight
* Pre-occupation or obsessive thoughts about food and weight
* Perfectionism
* Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
* Belief that control over food/body is synonymous with being in control of one's life
* Refusal to accept that one's weight is dangerously low even when it could be deadly
* Refusal to accept that one's weight is normal, or healthy

Emotional

* Low self-esteem and self-efficacy
* Intense fear about becoming overweight
* Clinical depression or chronically low mood
* Mood swings

Some of these causes of being underweight may sometimes not occur before you get older. Like for example bone problems

Other causes are loss of menstruation, risk of becoming sterile, stomach pain, delayed/abnormal puberty and wounds will also heal slower, and easier get infected, due to a weak immune system. And extreme underweight may cause other serious health issues.

can cause irregular periods and ultimately a heart attack or heart failure

that's it. it's bad for all the reasons that it affects you

You will have too many boys that are attracted to you.

if you already have the physical effects of anorexia you already have your answer.
IT KILLS PEOPLE.

Well those 'effects' aren't good ones are they? there you go that's why it's bad!

because you can die, or develop disorders! :o

look up web sites

it makes you depressed and changes the true you

Ok learn to spell
and mabey its bad because you cant enjoy a nice breeze, without flying over the mountain

you know life sucks when, even wind knocks you down ( forget the guys)

malnutrition, it can kill you

You get hooked, like a grud and when you need to stop you can't, and when you son't eat you die. Or worse, you get to a point and you can only eat tiny little jello things because your body can't take the food anymore.

They're killing themselves. They're depriving their bodies of what it needs to survive.

Note to oOSinOo - Don't tell people to learn to spell when you can't. This is how you spell MAYBE not MABEY.

Being severely underweight can have devastating consequences to bone, especially if there is an associated eating disorder, such as anorexia and bulimia. Studies have shown that bone lost during this time period isn't easily regained and the increased risk of fracture may be permanent, even with treatment. Young athletes involved in sports, such as ballet, gymnastics, and figure skating, where keeping their weight low is important often suffer from this condition. It severely lowers estrogen levels lacks the nutrients to grow strong bones and hormones to maintain bone, which causes osteoporosis at a young age, leading to stress fractures and weakened bones that can last a lifetime. This desire to be thin can lead to behaviors that can have disastrous consequences for bones down the road. With severe anorexia, you can develop life theatening heart problems, your kidneys or other organs may fail, and you may die. Behavioral modification teaches you how to change your behavior or actions. You will look at the reasons for your behavior and the results of your actions. With behavior mod therapy, you learn that certain behaviors have good or bad results. These results may make you feel either good or bad about yourself. Good behavior makes most people feel good about themselves. Good behaviors are often rewarded.

u deprive yourself of nourishment and your organs start to fail.....it becomes uncontrollable and it kills you

You can't control the weather because you are too thin so you are almost always cold.

*Anorexia is an illness that usually occurs in teenage girls, but it can also occur in teenage boys, and adult women and men. People with anorexia are obsessed with being thin. They lose a lot of weight and are terrified of gaining weight. They believe they are fat even though they are very thin. Anorexia isn't just a problem with food or weight. It's an attempt to use food and weight to deal with emotional problems.

it can kill you!!

Anorexia DOES NOT make you depressed and it DOES NOT change the "true you" however it does change your body's normal cycles such as hormone production which can cause irregular periods and sometimes can bring out already existing disorders in people such as depression. Being anorexic is extremely hard on the human body, making it very weak and frail. Individuals who suffer from anorexia are more likely to catch sicknesses such as the common cold and flu (please note that they are not more likely or less likely when it comes to STDs) Anorexic people often suffer from dizziness and blackouts because of their lack of food intake.

You loose your period
You can get Osteoporosis
You can get damage to the heart
Your organs can shut down
You can get seizures

YOU CAN DIE!!!!!

because your body needs fuel to function and if you deprive it of that fuel all parts of it fail and you can die.
