Carm it.
Doctors are proffessionally trained not to make it uncomfortable, and they do whatever they can to make it least embarrassing for every patient, especially under 16's who could be extremely upset by a private exam.
If you need one, you need one and thats nothing anybody can change.
If the doctor asks you to take off your top/bra or trousers/underwear then you can always ask for a sheet or gown to cover yourself with, and you could also explain your a bit embarrassed, and the doctor will be fine with it.
Please dont panic. I was scared my first time, but sinse I have to get examined alot for a medical condition I have I know the routine and doctors are great with covering up as much as possible, but obviously they need to be able to have a good look at the problem.
Doctors could sometimes be secretly scared to touch a patient who is very tense and nervous, so dont worry, theres no way a doctor would take advantage of you or do anymore than need be.
Any more concerns about this, let me know via email and ill explain more about all this to you.
Well done for being strong to ask this question.
Good luck!

do not be scared. your are going to have to do it whether you like it or not.

First off relax! Everybody does it, and really its no big deal. Stresssing out about it isnt helping any! Do some research to get yourself more familiar with what will ge happening, so that your more comfortable with it. And remember, its an exam, not a sexual encounter by any means!

get over it do you want to be healthy and live a long life?

hey im also a teen and ive had it once...
its not the best thing but its not that scary
i just think its better if your doctor is a woman though
good luck!

You'll have to do it eventually. It's really not that bad. The person doing it does it all the time and is totally used to it. It takes like 3-5 minutes. You dont have to have an exam like that until you're sexually active or about age 21 (whichever comes first). Just relax and think about something else and it will fly by and afterward take yourself out to ice cream or something, lol.

try to relax. Go to a female Dr. it your don't like having a male Dr. touch you. There will always be a nurse in the room with the Dr. so it is never completely private. The Drs. and nurses have done this many times. It is what they do for a living. They have seen it and heard it all so don't be ashamed or afraid. Talk with the Dr. before the exam and ask her to tell you what she is doing and why. A good Dr. will do this for you.

its better sooner than never....that way...doctors can make sure that nothing is wrong

I know it's scary i had to do it too.

just go somewhere that no one will bother you and just explore yourself and touch yourself down there and then it won't be as bad.

You shouldnt need a private exam unless you have had sex... Usually exams down there happen only after you have had sex for things like desease. If its an ultra sound for you period or something then they just go over your lower abdomin, no touching down there, if its for a kidney infection they get you to pee in a cup... no touching down there either. If they say they need to go down there you say no, they wont. simple as that.

well babe... we all have to do it in life. so you can ask your mom what happens when you go. but think of it like this. do you want to be a healthy adult and have kids. if yes you should go what if you have a bacteria and it maybe deadly. highly unlikely but i a just sayin. :-) dont be scared.

It's something every woman has to do. If it helps, have a female do your exam. Then RELAX. IT's more uncomfortable if you are tense. Look at the ceiling and think of other things. Believe it or not, the Dr has done THOUSANDS of these exams. Just tell her it's your first exam, and things will be fine, I promise.

Brandy, don't be scared. It is very important that you take control of your female health and be informed about it. Pap smears are very important. They are used to screen you for cervical cancer. Everything that I read said that you should start having pap smears when you become sexually active. Doctors are professionals and won't do anything that they shouldn't do. I assisted many doctors with pap smears over the course of seven years. First they will tell you everything they are doing. Do a google search. I would type in the search engine "everything a teen should know before having a pap smear."
