Unfair mum =(?!

Question: Hi! It's me Kenzie! I am 15 years old now,so my mum thinks it would be great if I got the Gardisil shot. I am very afraid of needles. I am not having sex,I'm proud to say I'm a virgin =)! I know my mum's intensions are good, and are only to keep me safe. BUT I went online to see the sideaffects were and they are.:

Swelling near the injection site:
Redness of the injection site:
The more frightning!!! You may faint from the pain!!!

I am really scared,since I'm 15 can I tell my mum no?

No, and if you would give this some more thought- you'd roll up your sleeve. While you were looking up the side effects, you should have looked up the other jabs as well. Swelling and redness at the site of a vaccination is normal. Did you think you could poke a hole in your skin without your body noticing? The whole point of the shot is to get a response from your immune system, so you won't catch the types of HPV it's meant to protect you from. As far as fainting from the pain, bologna. We give these shots all the time, and the one's who faint are the ones who get themselves all worked up over the whole shot thing. It's not something special for the Gardisil vaccination, they do it for all the vaccinations. The girl who "fainted" from the pain last week also "fainted" when we took her blood during a routine sports physical, and got overwhelmed in the booth having her hearing tested. Theatrics and fear mostly is what does it. You can't tell if your future partner carries the types of HPV the shot will protect you against. He won't have a clue, and you won't know you've been infected until it's too late to do anything but treat you and hope. So you are afraid of needles. Did you ever meet somebody who liked them? I don't like being on the pointy end myself, and I use them every day. I had my two daughters immunized too, and they both survived nicely. If you've had a paper cut, or stubbed your toe, had a splinter, or other minor mishap injury in life, you've already survived far worse pain. Don't look when you get the shot, and you may not even notice until it's nearly over. A good nurse can be in and on the way out before most people do notice. Afterwards, move the arm around and take some Tylenol. You won't faint, and you won't croak from the shot. And after it's all done, you will wonder what you ever got so excited about. Mum's not unfair at all, she's looking after your best interests. Her job is to help you, not to be popular after every decision. You trusted her this far, keep trusting her. Nobody else will look after your best interests with nearly as much vigor, certainly not the same love.

well you have to get the shot 3 times, once every 2 months
ive gotten 2 out of the 3, and its really not that bad, nothing happened to me or any of my friends.
it hurts as you're getting it, but then you cant feel it, and im also terribly afraid of needles
if you tell your mom taht you dont want to get it, she might think youre not a virgin, i would just say get it, its for the better =]

of course you can tell your mum no! its ur body
do you have a boyfriend?
if so say you'd rather go on the low-dose pill as it has less side effects
if not then she shouldnt be putting you on anything at all
hope i helped

Yes, but you shouldnt. It is very important. I'm doing it soon and I'm only 13, I turned 13 just 2 months ago. Trust me you'll be happy in the end and not to get personal but you won't always be a virgin most likely!! So your mums intentions are good and you can so no but the best choice is to just deal with it, think about it die from cancer or a shot?? which is better?

sideeffects don't last long. only a couple days.. you got a shot before you entered 9th grade.. it's just a shot like that. you're gunna get a bump like you did for the 9th grade shot
stop being a baby

just let her kno that ur uncomfortable and r a proud virgin n will let her no when u r ready. my mom actually told me tht she would prefer me not to get it becuz of it being so new n jst b honest with ur mom

Erm...of course! You are 15 now, you are entitled to have your own mind. You absolutely do not have to do anything that involves your own body that you feel forced into doing. I would feel glad that your mum is that open about the idea of you having sex, because when you do start having sex and want to use contraception, that will make your life so much easier. But for now you really need to tell her you don't want to do it. She has no right to force you into getting this injection.

There are problems with the Gardasil shot. It doesn't fully protect you. You can still get the cancer (if you even get it) from other ways.

If I had daughters, I wouldn't have them get it. I'm not getting it.

Tell her no.

ive had the shot and im only 13. its really not that bad. just focus ur pain on sumthing else. i promise, ull live!! and the side effects are really not that bad

you can, but if she's offereing i would definately do it. it protects against A LOT. get it done now and you'll never have to worry about it again. as for being scared of needles, if you have a good gyno, he/she will talk to you and try to keep you relaxed and maybe even distracted with small talk. it seems scary, but the benefits definately outweigh it. you can tell your mom no, but just think about the positive side too before making your final decision. you're lucky that your mom is offering to take you. i'm 22, haven't had the shot, want the shot real bad, but can't get it cuz my insurance doesn't cover it and i don't have the money. good luck...

OMG!
im so scared of needles 2!!
It's a phobia...
if my mom told me to get it, i would get, even though i would kick n scream when i'd get the needle in me ! :(
but look on the bright side, you'd be more healthier and protected!!
Breast cancer has killed ALOT of women...i might ask my mom if she let's me get it...who knows..

good luck! ;))

AHH, I hate shots, too, but sometimes it it's for the best, you should get it over with.
And .000000000001 seconds after it, you're fine.
I've had some of the most painful shots and I survived! I say get it done!!

It's really worth the pain. HPV is really an awful virus. It causes cancer in women. It WILL be passes to your children during pregnancy. The worst thing is, you don't even have to have sex to get it- just genital contact. Oral sex, hand jobs, just messing around. Trust me, when we even have to talk about shots or any medical procedures, I bawl. And then when I actually have to get them, they have to call in ever nurse in the place to sit on top of me. I
m 14. It's horrible. But I still got the shots. They protect you for the rest of your life. Just do it.

im 14 and i got it yesterday it may hurt a little for a while and make youre are feel a little heavy but its worst of u get cancer you have to get shot everyday

you can either get one shot or get one shout everyday you choose

and my mom also forced me but know that i think of it i thank her alot

I have had all three of the shots. The first one stung a bit going in and my arm was sore for a few days. The second one didn't sting as much and my arm wasn't for more than 24hours and the third one stung a lot and had a sore arm for a couple of days. No one I know had any swelling or redness or fainted. Tell the nurse/doctor that you do not like needles and they can help you out, small things like letting the alcohol dry and warming the medicine before it's injected can make big difference.

Good Luck
