Yeast Infection Cream?!

Question: My mom bought me an over-the-counter yeast infection cream (1 day treatment) and a little pH test thing to test for it. From my results and symptoms, I concluded I had a yeast infection for the first time. Well, the directions said to contact my doctor and schedule and appointment (which my family does NOT have the money for) but my mom told me to just use the cream.

Was this a huge mistake? Or should I not worry too much? And also, a little bit of the cream didn't get inserted because I didn't realize the plunger on the applicator wasn't all the way pressed in, will that cause problems?

And, yet another question, it says to not have sex for about 3-4 days after inserting the cream. I assume that would mean no fingering either? But I thought I'd ask..

Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't get a doctor unless after using the cream it didn't go away. The sex idea is possible the guys penis would have bacteria on it. Not that the guy is dirty, but its a prevent measure. Also, girls usually wipe themselves from the anus to the vagina which can cause them to get infections so always wipe vagina to anus. Wash hands afterwards.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone. Don't try to treat it with over the counter medication. That might get rid of the symptoms for a few days but it will not get rid of the yeast infection and it will not treat it fully. You need to get an anti-biotic from your doctor. You mentioned you don't have a doctor... I don't either - it's not a problem. They can provide you with this at a clinic (family planning or planned parenthood). You can look up the closest one to you online. You don't need health insurance and it won't cost too much (I think like $30). But that's not bad considering if it gets worse it might end up costing you a lot more to treat. As for sexual activity.. I wouldn't do anything until it is fully treated that might irritate the area. That includes sexual intercourse, oral sex, fingering, and using tampons. Better safe than sorry.

Monistat-1 is usually a very good cream and most doctors recommend it. If this is not enough to make the yeast infection go away, then I would suspect something else is wrong, or if you had sex with your boyfriend before you got treated, he has to be treated too. Yeast infections are very common and women get them from any number of things; pregnancy, the wrong kind of undies, etc.

I wouldn't split hairs about the small amount of cream that was left in the applicator, if the majority went in, you should be good. Good luck.

DO NOT GET ANTI-BIOTICS!!!!! these are a major cause of thrush in the first place!!!

The reason it says no sex for 3-4 days is beacuse the cream stays inside of you for a while - so if u really wanted to masturbate, it's up to you - it would just provoke the cream to come out faster and not work aswell (also - the cream breaks condoms).

The best relief I've found is an over-the-counter med. It's a 1 tablet cure, u take it and within 24 hours its usually gone.

It's usually about $15.00 AUS, u just need to go the the pharmacist counter and ask for a '1 tablet treatment for thrush' if u can get the generic brand.

Good luck :D
