Womanly question...?!

Question: Why do our periods make us feel like crap? I've got PMT or PMS and it usually lasts about a week. What can I do to make myself feel better?

Force yourself to go for a walk ( I know it may be the last thing you want to do) but it does help.

Never made me feel too crappy unless I was in some serious pain which sometimes I was. Pamprin helped that a lot though. Try the pill, it helps your periods.

i think it the inbalance of hormones which makes us feel this way

book the sofa ,remote, grab a cover, huge bar off choc and indulge

works for me lol

Personally, I go with hot water bottles, hot drinks, and bed. Not sleeping even, just resting. I don't find painkillers really do much. A lot of people find excercise helps. I watch something good to take my mind off it a bit.

birth control pills make your period alot more managable. but if you don't want to take hormones, just take pain killers when you feel it coming. and keep taking pain killers every few hours to keep it at bay. Or talk to your doctor about other medications. You can help yourself before hand by exercising regularly and eating healthily. Diuretics also help your body get rid of extra sodium and fluid. They can ease bloating, weight gain, breast pain and abdominal pain. Diuretics are usually taken just before you would normally have these symptoms.

Try evening primrose capsuls they really work and makes your skin and hair look good

i know its the pits, well i take ibruprofen, this helps with pain and makes your period much less heavy.cut down on salt as this makes you bloat worse.hot bath, hot drink all helps me x

Some mineral deficiencies can make PMS worse. You can talk to a doctor about possible supplements to take.

The pain is because our periods are 'cleansing' our womb, etc and these areas become inflamed during this.

If you want to carry on as normal then try feminax, you can get it from the pharmacy. It works wonders and should take away the majority of the pain! Also try heat pads that you can get in the sanitary aisle - they stick onto your stomach or lower back and release a gentle, comforting heat throughout the day.

If you're off work then the above and a duvet and lots of fluids should be just the thing!

If you're looking to be period free (but still capable of having children) ask your Dr about the Merina Coil - I have it and it's a form of contraception that releases a small hormone daily and takes away your periods completely or lessens them. I've had it for a year now and couldn't do without it! It hasn't given me any side effects and it's even helped with my PMT! It is expensive for the NHS though so don't ask at the family planning clinic, they'll say no! Go to your Dr's if you want to discuss it!

Hope you feel better!

Hey there :)
Avoid any unnecessary stress.
Drink plenty of water and eat a lot of fresh food, especially fish. Try to lay off the potatoes and bread - they make you feel even more bloated :(
Take gentle exercise, and think happy thoughts - sounds silly, but it works :) Smile, and the world smiles at you :)

Take care you, Lulu x
