Does Seasonique really give you only 4 periods a year?!

Question: My GYN just put me n Seasonique and said that it was better than Seasonale in that it truly only gives you 4 periods a year, without spotting. Has anyone else had success with this?

Seasonique will give you only 4 periods a year, but a common complaint of many of my patients on these pills is unpredictable spotting throughout the month. This can especially happen in the first 3 months and even go on for the first year, but should improve after that.

You really won't know if you will be one of these women but it is a very common complaint of taking birth control this way.

If you do experience spotting you should contact your doctor.

You can also try taking 600-800 mg of Motrin every 8 hours for 5 days or every 2 Aleveevery 12 hours for 5 days...this sometimes stops spotting.

yes it does.

if you take just regular birth control and skip the pills in the last week when you're supposed to have your period and start the new pack that week instead, you won't get it... it is essentially the same idea.

I've been on both seasonale and seasonique and haven't had any spotting or bleeding in between my 4 periods a year for the 18 months I've been taking them.
