The Adult way to address such situations would be simple HONESTY!! There is no better way, and by being honest, you've nothing to hide, nothing you'll need to 'remember' and you might gain a wonderful friend with Honesty..plain and simple honesty!! My BEST to You
Just say that you like him as a friend.
Just tell him. It will hurt him more in the end if you lead him on. You should just let him know what's going on... he'll probably get over it in a few days.
