Birth Control- IUD Question?!

Question: My copper IUD came out on its own last night and I am having weird bleeding all month. Is there a reason for this? I have one partner only BTW. No STD's.

Also, since it is out I am thinking of getting the Merina (horomone) IUD next week instead of the same copper one. I want this because I hear it stops you from menstruating.

Is this true? Does anybody have the horomone IUD and like it? Any side effects?

Thank you!

I have the Mirena hormonal type IUD and I absolutely love it. I had extremely heavy periods before I got it. They would usually last 10 days and be heavy for 6 or 7 of the days. Since I got my IUD, I have a period about every 3 or 4 months and they are extremely light lasting only about 2 or 3 days. A lot of people have had negative side effects from these, but my only complaint is that I have started to get some acne since I had it placed. Other than that, I'm totally happy. Good luck with your decision.

I just got the Mirena after having my second child... I really like it... My ob told me that most women stop having periods after three months... since i am still breastfeeding i dont really have periods anyways, but do have some occasional spotting that I did not have after my first child, so possibly caused by the Mirena... The spotting is never really bad, if I start in the middle of the day and don't already have a pantyliner on i never "soak" through to my pants, just a little bit on panties... I do not get cramps at all, and if it does start to fall out, your partner should feel it, and your ob can put it right back in place... very flexible plastic type material, I recommend it!

My periods were lighter with the Mirena, but they didn't ever go away. They went from 5-7 days to 3-4 days and the blood loss was much less.
