The redness and puffiness that's accompanying the discharge makes this sound like a definite yeast infection, but in case it's something worse, tell her to make an appointment to see her OBGYN to confirm.

It could be many things. It sounds like a yeast infection. I know this is gross, but, is the discharge cottage cheesy. Is the pubic hair crusty and itchy? Even if she has some symptoms of a yeast infection, like i said it could be sooo many different things. Please tell your friend to go see a doctor right away before it gets worse.
She should really see a doctor. There is no way that you'll be able to find out for sure what is going on using the internet, simply because we do not have any way to do tests or anything of that sort. Redness, swolleness, and discharge could be anything from an allergic reaction to laundry detergent, to a yeast infection, to a STD, to something more serious. If you have a Planned Parenthood in your area, they can usually do an exam for under $20.
