IM SO FREAKED OUT but its real embarassing :[ im only 15?!

Question: it started on 1.4.08 it was real heavy for 3 days, sometimes for a few hours maybe a day i had to change every 2 1/2 hours a super plus tampon, i had to wear a pad aswell. it stopped for a day and then brown spotting, now its back but generally light compared to what it was. i started taking primrose oil to help with my periods about a month or so ago. im really tired because of my heavy bleeding because i had to get up during the night and i was freaked out about it, ive never had a regular period and ive only had them for 16 months, my flow has gone from being really really light to super heavy, but ive only gotten super heavy once or twice. is this something to worry about and do i need to see a gyno person, i really dont want to. im COMPLETLY FREAKED OUT ABOUT THIS, and im really panicing about it :'[ but im soo tired and i dont want to have to get up during the night. ive had my period stop for a day before and its really annoying because it just makes it last longer any advice?

Your periods will be irregular until your adulthood, as your body is still developing physically and sexually your hormones will be all over the place, the evening primrose oil will help but remember your periods will still be irregular and unpredictible for a while, don't get yourself too stressed about it.

DON'T PANIC! :o)

For the heavy periods the BEST thing I can advise you to do - get a menstrual cup - these are far safer and cleaner than tampons and pads, they can be left in for up to 12 hours at a time including at night time without leaking or any risk (unlike tampons), they are also far more convenient, cheaper, greener and generally more comfortable. Menstrual cups are also shown to reduce menstrual flow and menstrual cramps compaired to tampons too.

I suffer from far heavier periods than you - I'm too heavy to even use tampons or pads, when I was a kid I used super tampons and night pads but still leaked heavily after half an hour - menstrual cups were a life-saver, literally as not only could I not go out the house on my period tampons are stupidly bad for your health.

Take a look at getting a menstrual cup like a Divacup http://www.divacup.com you can try it for a few months and if not for you send it back, take a look at sites online about menstrual cups too like the menstrual cup support community - http://www.menstrualcups.org

It may be worth talking to a doctor as you are suffering from Menorrhagia which can be caused by serious things (nothing that can't be delt with, don't worry) - why don't you want to see a gyno? There is nothing wrong with seeing one, we all have to see one at some point in our life, it is just the same as going to any other doctor.

Be warned - many doctors will try to put you on hormonal birth control like the pill, do not let them...doctors do this to be lazy, it covers up the problem rather than cures it so the problem may come back again once you stop using it and if it is something serious you want tests and treatment sooner rather than later. Hormonal birth control works by suppressing your cycle, thus how it can cover up cycle problems like this, which if you are young is not a good idea because it is vital that you learn what is normal for your cycle to better care for your sexual health throughout the rest of your life. Using birth control can have major affects on your body too, basically using birth control to deal with menstrual problems is like using an A-bomb to kill a fly - total overkill.

As for your period pains, this isn't something you have to put up with, make sure your diet is healthy and don't take painkillers as these actually make the pains worse over time, instead try getting some clary sage, this is an oil you rub into your tummy, works much better on period pains and doesn't have any bad side effects like painkillers can have.

Look at prevention tips too, these will also help with your heavy periods, here are a few ideas for you to try to help your cramps;

? Cell-salts - pevention and cure.

Cell-salts are a natural mineral that your body needs for basic functioning, if you are lacking in these then this can affect all sorts of things in your body, you can take these daily to help prevent menstrual cramps all together or you can take them when you get cramps upping the does every 5-10 minutes until the pain goes away. Wikipedia explains cell salts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_salts

? Herbal teas - prevention and cure.

Herbal methods have been used for a very long time and are still popular, as well as dealing with menstrual pains they can also be used for other menstrual problem such as PMS, reducing menstrual flow, inducing your periods, reducing bloating and regulating your menstrual cycle, most herbs used for menstrual problems can help with general menstrual health that will in turn also help your menstrual cramps.
Most of these can be bought in tea-bag form from health stores and supermarkets, some stores also stock 'women's blends' that are good for all around women's health, although fresh is best it can sometimes mean having to check how to best prepare the herb, it should also be noted that herbal teas should never be boiled as this affects the potency of the herb.
You may also want to check to see if you can use herbs if you suffer any health problems or if you are using hormonal birth control.

Herbs to use for menstrual cramps;
- Rasberry leaf
- Yarrow
- Lemon balm
- Black Haw
- Blessed thistle
- Camomile
- Wild marjoram
- Red raspberry
- Wild strawberry
- Valerian
- Blue cohosh
- Dong quai

? Diet - prevention.

Avoid salty foods and alcohol as these can increase boating by retaining water as well as making you feel sluggish that can make period pains worse, drinking a lot of water can help you avoid bloating as well as helps with migraines and headaches brought on by menstruation - adding lemon juice to the water will also help as this is a natural diuretic.
Eat a lot of greens this will help improve general health as well as give you a pick-me-up during menstruation, fruit such as banana and strawberry is good too.
Avoid foods such as dairy and caffeine as these can cause a lot of problems for people particularly during menstruation when they can increase menstrual cramps for a lot of people - soy is also one that you should avoid as this is notorious for causing menstrual pains.
It may be worth taking a food alergy test/food intolerance test because any foods causing problems with your body on the whole can in turn affect menstruation and your menstrual cycle - this can be expensive, but keep an eye out for some health stores that will from time to time offer free testing.
Increase your intake of magnesium, calcium, and potassium, also couple with zinc to help your body absorb these easier - these are all things needed by your body to help the uterus lining shed - also Omega 3 & 6, Multi B with high B6 and B13, vitamin E is also a good anti-inflammatory.

? Take up yoga - cure.

Yoga is a very good exercise tip because as well as being gentle exercise it also has stretching that can help even further, yoga poses that stretch the abdomen - like upward dog are of great help.
Breathing exercises are also part of yoga and good as a general idea to help with menstrual cramps, some people find this a little strange, that breathing is something we do naturally anyway, however we often get out of practice and taking the time to understand how your body moves as you breath and mental exercise can help calm you down.
Try the book 'Yoga for a health menstrual cycle' by Linda Sparrowe and Patricia Walden, or there are a lot of online information about yoga and menstrual cramps for example this video with postures that would help you - http://www.videojug.com/film/yoga-postur... - general stretching of your abdomen will help you a lot too.

? Take a bath - cure.

It's simple enough, a bath will help to relax you as well as give you some warmth that will help ease off your menstrual pains, taking a warm bath can also help increase menstruation or induce menstruation if you find yourself with menstrual cramps but a stubbon period that won't show itself.
Avoid things that can harm your vagina like bubble bath, instead try some nice plain bath salts and/or essential oils - I recomend lavender oil or try for some relaxation blends.

? Sex - cure.

During orgasm it is believed that a hormone which causes uterine contractions is released calls Oxytocin, which can help to push out menstrual material. The relaxation and improved circulation to the pelvic area after sex can also ease period pain. Although masturbation during menstruation can be messy there is no reason to avoid it, using a towel over your bed, having sex in the shower, or using softcups or soft tampons are all options for mess free during your period.

? Acupressure/acupuncture - prevention and cure.

Although it might be too expensive for you to go to a therapist for this you may want to get yourself a basic book on acupressure/acupuncture to teach yourself some basics to help with your cramps. The acupressure/acupuncture points that should be stimulated for menstrual cramps are: BL24 (Qihaishu), BL25 (Dachangshu), BL30 (Baihuanshu), BL31 (Shangliao), BL32 (Ciliao), BL34 (Xialiao), CV2 (Qugu), CV6 (Qihai), KI5 (Shuiquan), and KI6 (Zhao Hai). You can find the locations of these points here - http://www.acuxo.com/selections.asp?ques...

Please don't worry or freak out. While the bleeding doesn't seem typical, it doesn't sound like anything serious to worry about. You should definitely see your doctor about it though- especially since it's freaking you out. Sometimes they can prescribe low dose hormones to even your periods out for you and make them easier to tolerate and predict.

Good luck girl.

you need to go see your doctor you sound like you are suffering from Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding). This can be caused by many of things and you may need to get on birth control in order to help control this problem. Please read the information on the weblink I am supplying. Good Luck

there is no need to worry, periods take a while to regulate, eventually they will become better. its nothing to worry about, it happens to everyone.
x

Mines happens like that sometimes too and I get really stressed out.
Try taking a birth control pill, maybe it would help!
It's really normal for a person to changed every 2 1/2 hour so don't get freaked out.

Hope that helps!!

It's normal for a girl in her teens to have heavy or irregular periods. From what I gather, your body is just getting rid of most of the "stuff" in one go, instead of a regular flow over the course of a week? One thing that can lighten your flow and regulate it more is birth control. Birth control prevents your body from releasing an egg, therefore not as much blood is produced to line your uterus's walls =) Though birth control is not for everyone, and if you can go without it, its better for your body.

well i don't think you have to be scared of anything but i'd advise you to go and see a doctor just for your security so you can be at peace with whatever is happening
