Tampon problems, Hymen worries?!

Question: I am currently on my 4th period, I believe.

I bought some tampons today. It is my first time trying them.

As I went to use them, I relaxed, and took my time after reading the instructions.

I went to put it in, and it would not go in. It hurt so much. I just want to use them as they are much easier.

Is there a way it wont hurt, I notice I am a little 'dry', when putting it in, is that why, so how can I make it slip in, so it does not hurt. A friend also told me, that they had tried masturbation and that, that, did not hurt, she could go quite far in with her finger, (could put her whole finger in), is this normal and then when she said she tried a tampon it really hurt, why is this.

I am 15 by the way and am still a virgin and my friend is 16 and she is still a virgin too.

Thanks.

Think about what a tampon is and where it is going - a hard dry wad of cotton/paper pulp being inserted into a soft moist delicate vagina - it is friction as the dry tampons rub against the delicate mucosa (the walls of your vagina) which also split during the time you use a tampon as the tampon doesn't just absorb blood but also absorbs important vaginal fluids.

If the tampon is not inserted correctly, for example if it is not pushed far enough into your vagina, then the muscles within the walls of your vagina will contract as they do normally against the tampon - also when moving about your vagina will also move, but the tampon stays where it is firm so pushing against the walls of your vagina.

If inserting you may be pushing the walls of your vagina against the tampon - if you are not relaxed your vaginal muscles will tense up so not allow for penetration. It's recomended you lay on your bed and relax before putting in an internal menstrual option for the first time, you can also try lubrication such as KYjelly or for an easy-to-get lubricant try olive oil which is safe to use. Ideally you could try masturbating to orgasm as when aroused your vagina naturally elongates, lubricates and relaxes.

Your hymen may be a factor too, this is the thin layer of flesh that partly covers the opening to your vagina, when this is broken it can be painful or pleasurable. It may have been that you broke your hymen when inserting the tampon and you may have been someone who found that to be painful. It may be an idea to check to see if your hymen is in tact or broken now.

There is a saying amongst the womens sexual health communities;
'Friends don't let friends use tampons!'
Tampons as well as being inconvenient are also expensive, environmentally damaging, dirty and unsafe, see tampon health web site http://www.spotsite.org for more details.

You say you want to use tampons because they are much easier, easier than what?! Tampons are stupidly inconvenient as you can't use them when your period is light or at night, you have to change them every few hours, they give you constant infections, you always have to carry spares, you have to buy them all the time, they are expensive, you have to worry about where to throw them away, they make your cramps worse. God, I remember using them when I was a kid, I used them right from the first day of my period and they were a total pain, I finally started learning more about my body and discovered all the other things you can use when you are on your period. I was so very glad to stop using tampons and use my menstrual cup instead, I'd not go back to tampons ever again, not even if you paid me they are so bloody inconvenient.

I'd strongly advise that if you want to use internal menstrual options you try menstrual cups, you won't risk loosing anything trying them as you can get your money back if you don't like them. Menstrual cups can be left in for up to 12 hours without leaking, including before your period and at night time, nothing shows on the outside, they are easy to use. Menstrual cups are cheap, green, convenient, clean and most importantly safe - http://www.menstrualcups.org

may sound gross but if you put vaseline on the end of it it will slide in. also, are you sure you have the right place? when you are on your period make sure you know exactly which part the blood is coming from and then put the tampon there.

put some vaseline on the outside of the applicator...should work fine.

you may want to stick to pads. dont think its a good idea to use a tampon until after your hymen is broken

You really gotta be relaxed, use some vasaline on the applicater and around your vagina, if it still hurts perhaps you should stick to pads for a while

may be first try with a plastic applicator...it will be easier

The first time is always really hard. It will take time for you to get used to using them. Just be patient. (You could always use a bit of KY Jelly, that may help.) X

Okay, first make sure that you are using the slim/junior size tampon (those are for virgins). If you are dry, then try rubbing the tampon with vaseline or saliva, and make sure the tampons are plastic. Try Platex Gentle Glide...they work really well! Oh, and make sure you are putting it in the right place, and that you are putting it in the hole, not just pushing it up against skin. Good luck!

Tampons should not damage your hymen. It is better though, that you don't use tampons, they really are for heavy periods, in some rare cases they can create toxic shock syndrome. I would suggest you use stick on pads.

Being a virgin should not make a difference to using tampons, but being dry and worried about using them can. You need to tell yourself that bu inserting them that you acnnot do yourself any harm....it is possible that you are unconsciously telling yourself that it might hurt, making it more difficult for you....you cannot and will not hurt yourself long term in using them. Admitedly it can be difficult at first, but you need to practice at getting the technique right, read the instructions in the packet firstly, and allow yourself plenty of time.

the first few times i used a tampon it hurt a little, but as i got better at it it didn't hurt so much, don't follow the instruction exactly, just find out how it goes in easy for you, also you should be able to fit your whole finger in. as for the dry thing, masturbation will get you wet and should make it easier, if your not comfortable with that then you could get some sort of lube, or just twist it as you insert it and if it still doesn't go in easily then maybe just stick to pads a bit longer. hope this helps :-)

It is normal to be able to fit in a whole finger.Maybe you should try learning more about how your body feels for you before you try again.

hayy....urmm
the person hu sed u are takin ur viginty if you use tampons...is talkin shitt

if ur a virgin and then you use tampons....then ur still a virgin lol

well first, if you are using a tampon your period has to be pretty heavy.
the first few days it doesn't start off heavy
but after a few it should go in with ease because of the blood. but you could try using a different kind i think it's playtex. it's a gentle glide aplicator.
it is plastic and it goes in a lot smoother.

but about the hymen thing it doesn't break your hymen and tampons are
way too small to even try. unless you are pushing it up way too far. probably farther then you should. and then it might get stuck. so not a good idea. but your fingers are even smaller then the tampon, so of course it doesn't hurt when you finger yourself.

but if you have ever seen a guy's dick it is alot thicker then a tampon and longer too. so no worries. but just use a plastic applicator and maybe put some vaseline on the end and your straight.

First of all your hymen has a "natural" hole in it in order to let the blood flow out so, unless you are really rough, you won't tear your hymen just using tampons. I started using them when I was 15 and my aunt told my mother I wasn't a virgin, but my mother knew better. Sure, they were easier to go in and felt better after I lost my virginity, but I had been using them two years by then. DON'T use Vaseline--it's yucky. Try one of the KY liquid oils. A much better feel and they should go in easily.

Good luck.

Virgin/non virgin doesn't matter. If you were "dry" it would have been uncomfortable but not necessarily painful. It shouldn't hurt. It sounds like you may be putting it in wrong.

Not sure if you're using cardboard applicator, but plastic is easier. Relaxing is key. Try standing with your feet apart and squatting. Remember, it should go in at an angle - not straight up.

Just keep practicing and take breaks if you get frustrated. This is quiet different and can take a few times of practice before you master it.

Firstly make sure you are relaxed and comfortable.
Then just slide the tampon in. If you try more than once you will become dry, and it will hurt.
All women are different internally, it will take you a while to find out how you are inside. Some women have to push a tampon up a little or down towards the bottom.
After time you will get there and it will be very natural. It may take a few more periods for you to get confident, but don't be in a hurry.
Try a little vaseline or ky jelly.
Using your finger is different because you can feel where you are going, with a tampon, you have to guide where it is going.
Mastubation with your finger may help, as you will be able to feel which direction to to aim the tampon.
I hope this helps.

try using the correct tampon for you period if you no heavy use a super in between a regular and lit lite and make sure its in the right place using a tampon that doesnt go with your period will hurt x

Unfortunately it is quite sore the first few times until you get used to it and then they are so much better. The vasaline is a good idea though, it wont go in if your too dry.

Ok, you cannot take your virginity with a tampon people! Your virginity is not really the hymen still being intact. As a child I rode horses every day and learned when I did first have sex at 18 that it was no longer in tact. That didnt mean I wasnt a virgin though.

As for the tampon, When I first started my mom pushed me to use a tampon but it hurt going in then was really uncomfortable for me once in. I stuck to pads for a few more years until I tried again with tampons and my body was just more willing to take it. You have to learn your body still, some people just cant wear tampons, some cannot stand pads. If your body doesnt feel comfortable wearing a tampon then give it some time and try again!

Try putting Vaseline on the end of the tampon. It will help it to slide in better. Start off with slim/jr size. Try different positions, and different angles of the tampon. (aim it toward your lower back). The first time you do put it in, it will hurt a bit. Just make sure you are relaxed and that you go slow

you better just use pads because you are taking yur virginity if you use them.
