Period...Is this a miracle?!?!

Question: Right, I was due my period on Monday, but it came this morning. I didn't think it was unusual, cos it can be irregular by 2-3 days =]
I had blood out when I went into the toilet. I know i'm in full flow for my period now. But, the big question is...well the story is, About 2 years ago I used to get heavy periods & tbhh they scared me they were so heavy =[, I was convinced I was losing far too much blood. Then for some reason, last year, the heavy periods stopped and got replaced by unbearable cramp =[
I was like 'If i'm into my period alraedy, does this mean my periods aren't going to be so painful anymore?' It'd be a dream come true, for more heavy periods rather than more painful periods! =]
Is this normal for teenagers..?
xx

Every one is different. If you haven't had your period for long (less than a year) than yes, your body/hormones are still adjusting and fluctuating. It takes about that a year to stabilize your cycle (sometimes it may need more time to adjust) Personnally, I get both, heavy, painful and lenghty. I need to take over-the-counter tylenol+codeine just to get through the day and be able to get up in the morning. You may want to ask your doctor for the pill, or the patch. It helped me reduce the heavy flow and pain and it would last less days (normally I would be 15 days on my period, 13 days of "normal life"). I had also taken the injection (Depo-Provera) and it stopped the period altogether. However, it had a nasty effect on my mood and my libido. Good luck to you, all the best.
Oh and for people who have nothing to answer, please just don't. You make yourselves look like fools. Yahoo! answers is not just to get points, it's to HELP each other, not to PUT DOWN each other. We are on WOMEN'S HEALTH section and the title was clearly about period. If you had NO INTENTION to answer, then refrain yourself from it.

It's normal don't worry

its normall your periods are gonna be kinda messed up because your hormones are a bit crazy atm...xxx

It may be worth you speaking to your doctor about your periods , she/he may suggestion medication or contraception to easy your pains and flow.
To answer your question, yes this is normal for teenagers .
Periods change their pattern so may be useful for you to use a diary to note changes.

If you are a teenager then yes it is and can be quite normal for your periods to be completely messed up for a few years. heavy bleeding and cramps often come together which is unfortunate but true. If you really are worried that you are too heavy then the best advice I can give you is to go either to see the doc or a well woman clinic.
If you use a menstrual cup instead of tampons or pads this can actually effectively measure the blood loss so the docs can tell if it is too much or not.
It may well be that they won't be so painful or that they can alternate from month to month, use painkillers or heat to manage the cramps, but i hope it is a sign that the cramps have ended for now.
Take care and ignore the idiots.

I've gone through ridiculously heavy periods and horrfically bad cramps AND awful mood swings - its all a part of growing up, don't worry sweetheart.

By the age of 18 you will still have the odd disturbance but your periods will have balanced out A LOT!!! You will also have discovered which method is best for your period - it took me until 16 to realise that tampax and neurofen was best - I now have barely any period pain and my period has shortened by one sometimes 2 days!

Unfortunately for teenagers your hormones and emotions are all over the place which means you can have the most haywire periods! It's probably nothing to worry too much about hun, but if you are concerned then speak to a nurse/doctor about it.

Yes I would say totally normal. When I was at school I used to get the most horrendous cramps. I would be curled up in agony and couldnt go to school. But wasnt normally very "heavy". Then all of a sudden I got really heavy flow aswell. Very strange .. was in a right state. I had prescriptions from the drs and everything but in the end he suggested the contrceptive pill (i was only 15). Absolute heaven after .. light flow, hardly any cramps. Not saying that is right for everyone but might be an idea to speak to your dr.

Now I have come off the pill to try for a baby and now its kind of really heavy one month with no cramps .. or bad cramps and light flow .. or really heavy and bad cramps all the way through. So Im all over the place again .. lol. And Im 27 and been having periods for 14 years!!

So basically what Im saying after rabbiting on (lol) is yes it is normal but a trip to the drs might be a good idea just to discuss .. there is plenty of ways they can help .. dont suffer in silence hun.

Take care

What. The. Ef. Are. You. Saying?

Ermm sorry I couldnt be botherd readin it all but thats 2 much info!!

gross, normal i think
