When does ovulation occur when you're on the pill?!
Question: I know the pill works by stopping ovulation, but I read a post on the internet from a very conservative pastor that said that ovulation can occur even if you're on the pill and that the egg can be fertilized but is ''aborted'' because the pill also makes it impossible for the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterine walls.
Wouldn't ovulation occur only if I wasn't taking the pill correctly or if I mixed it with other medicines? Can ovulation occur even if you're taking the pill perfectly? Is that just a lie to stop women from wanting to have a little more control over their lives?

No, the pill does not cause abortions in the rare event that you ovulate while taking the pill, especially if you've been taking it consistently and correctly.
If this were true, women wouldn't become actually pregnant while taking the pill, as taking the pill a few weeks into pregnancy does not affect the fetus. Lots of women get pregnant on the pill and their fetuses are not aborted (at least not by the pill), but carried to term.
Some conservative people simply do not understand how hormonal birth control works; they see that it prevents pregnancy and feel that it's morally wrong. It's just like the lie that is perpetuated about the morning after pill being an "abortion pill".
In rare cases, yes, ovulation can occur while you have been taking the pill consistently and correctly. Most pills have hormones that make your body build thicker cervical mucous that makes it more difficult for sperm to swim through, making conception much more difficult, this is the pill's second line of defense. However, if the sperm does get past the mucous, and happens to get to the egg, the hormones in the pill will NOT prevent it from implanting itself to the uterine wall.
The pill works by stopping ovulation. However, it is not totally 100% fool proof. It does not work by stopping the egg from implanting, so it is not "abortion". I know people who have gotten pg and had a baby while on the pill.
The pastor has an agenda...not only is he against abortion but he's against birth control. He's trying to scare people into not using the pill by making them think it's abortion. The pill does not = abortion!
Take your pill at the same time every day and be careful about what other meds you take and you should be fine. It's 99.7% effective.
Since you CAN get pregnant ANY TIME you have sex, you can definitely ovulate on the pill.
Pills are ONLY 99% effective when taking exactly as prescribed. Therefore you do have a chance of ovulating.
The ONLY 100% effective method is abstinence.
