Contraceptive injection???!
Question: Hiya ive got an appointment to have the injection tomorrow morning and i was just wondering if anyone has had any trouble with it etc in the leaflet it says you may put on weight has this happend 2 n e 1??

Oh jeez... please do some research before you actually get this shot. There are so many better alternatives to the shot. Many doctors won't administer it because it is so controversial and has so many side effects. Weight gain is a side effect. Constant bleeding for 3 months is another common side effect. Yes, some women on the shot don't get a period at all, but some have constant bleeding - you're flipping a coin here.
Now to the more serious stuff - the shot causes bone loss! There are many law suits going on against Depo Provera's manufacturer right now. The shot was almost never approved by the FDA in the US because it was so problematic and controversial. Many women's groups are demanding it be taken off the market.
Just the fact that Depo Provera was originally used as a form of chemical castration for male sex offenders totally creeps me out.
Please read about this and consider a different method. The Nuva Ring has been getting excellent reviews and you only need to think about it every 3 weeks.
yes you usually do gain weight.
is it the depo shot? I was on that and i did gain weight..i also didnt have a period which was great...i didnt like the weight gain though so i switched to the IUD..it's great they insert it in a regular appointment and it works for 5 yrs and if you want to get it removed you just go in to the office..i've had it for about a year now and have not gained any weight and still dont have a period. I love it
yea bit only because it makes you more hungry, just eat what you normally do, i wouldnt worry too much its only abit anyway

Not all women gain weight with the contraceptive injection and in fact some women actually lose weight. In those that do gain weight the average gain is 2-3 kg over a year (so up to 6lb).
As long as you keep to a healthy diet and excercise regularly you shouldn't have a problem. Remember, it only lasts 3 months so if you do find it doesn't suit you you can soon change to another method. I was on it for 6 years and I did put on weight but it depends on yourself everybody is different
