Why Do I throw up my multi vitamin?!

Question: I never use to,until 2002 when I was pregnant with my daughter- I threw up within10 or 15 minutes after taking my prenatal vitamin. Finally I just had to stop taking them. (I delivered a very healthy 7 lb 8 oz baby anyway). My question is... ever since then ..6 years later.. I'm still very nauseated and dry heave after I try to take a women's "One a Day" vitamin. Any suggestions or maybe know what could be causing this? I even get a little nauseated when I try to take Flintsones.

It's very common to feel sick on prenatal vitamins. You may have just built up a sensitivity to one of the vitamins in the pill or even the coating. Although it would cost more try taking your vitamins separately. IF one makes you sick, then you know which one is making you ill.

It could be the vitamin B - even the smell of that makes some people nauseous. Try taking a supplement that just has what you need, rather than an "all in one" vitamin. Folic acid and calcium in pregnancy are a good example.

I take mine at night right before bed. I take it with a glass of milk and maybe a piece of bread or crackers so that I sleep throught the nausia. That is what my doc told me to do. And it works well.

Are you taking it right after a meal? A substantial one? I get really sick if I take vitamins on an empty stomach.

I have the same reaction whenever I try to take a tablet form multi-vitamin - initially I feel like it's stuck in my throat and then I start dry heaving. It's terrible! I have a worse reaction to the "all natural" vitamins because of the smell I think.

Because of this, I've switched to liquid multi-vitamins. They're a lot more expensive, but I don't have any negative reaction to it. It looks like pond scum, but the taste is actually kind of good and with one sip of water afterwards there is no vitamin-y aftertaste. My doctor also told me that liquid vitamins get absorbed much better. She specifically said that Centrum and One a Day are often a waste of money, since they often aren't absorbed at all or very little. This is the liquid vitamin I use: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/br...

Good luck
