I'm 27, never been on birth control pill?!

Question: Well I was on it once when I was 17 but I always forgot to take it so I stopped all together. Ever since then, every gyno. I see tells me to get on it and I just don't want to! I have a friend who had a stroke and I 've just heard other bad things. Am I being irresponsible?
I'm recently married so it would not be a big deal if I were to get pregnant, although we are not exactly ready just yet. What are other people's experiences with the pill?

I'm 25, never been on the pill and nor do I ever intend to use it. My husband and I use other forms of birth control and plan on trying for a baby in the next year or two anyway. I just figure that if it ain't broke don't fix it...I see no reason to mess around with my natural cycles when there's really no need. If you don't want to use it, then don't.

It is simple: if you don't mind getting pregnant, then you're all set. If you DON'T want to get pregnant, you are being irresponsible.

That said, you're reasoning for not taking it is really poor. I, for one, have never heard of anyone getting a stroke from birth control pills. I'll bet my savings account there were other factors in that. In any case, it is your choice. If you don't mind the possibility of having a kid, then I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise, I'd listen to your doctor. They know more about this than you do.

I got a lot of nausea, didn't like it one bit. Now I'm on depo, I love it never get a period, but there's a chance for bone loss. I would go over with your gyno the different types of birth control out there, and see which ones right for you.

It almost cost me my life, I had unprotected sex in a party. Luckily it didnt make a baby in my girlfriend

You are not being irresponsible. I had the same thing happen with my docs wanting me to be on it. I wasn't even sexually active and my period was completely normal. So if you don't want to be on it, don't be. You can use condoms, or use another form of birth control, or can have a baby if that's what you both want. But do not be pressured into being on it.

I have been on it now for 4 months and everything is fine. I noticed I was hungrier in the beginning but I think I dealt with it. It can cause different side effects for different people for different pills. So if you want to try it, there are lots of options. If not, then do whatever you have been doing.

I'm 23 and have been on birth control for the past 4 years. I have a couple of different kinds of pills, but in my experience Yasmin worked the best. I didn't have any negative side effects on Yasmin.

Good luck making your decision. Hope this helps!

If you don't want to go on birth control, then don't.

I don't think your being irresponsible unless you aren't using condoms and are getting the morning after pill all the time. Which it doesn't sound like you are.

So, keep off it. Personally, I wish I had never gone on any type hormonal birth control.
